Perjantaina suunnittelin, mitä me voisimme viikonloppuna tehdä. Ajattelin, että voisimme lähteä Hongqiaon kukkamarkkinoille, sillä se on niin pitkällä, ja metrolla sinne ei oikein halua lähteä. No enpä tätä idea CClle sanonut, mutta lauantaina CC heräsi päiväunilta ja sanoi, että lähdetäänkö kukkamarkkinoille? Kysyin, että mistä hän tällaisen idean keksi, ja hän sanoi, että minä olin sen hänen unessaan sanonut. Noniin eli telepatia täälläpäin ainakin toimii!

Matka autolla kesti noin tunnin, ja käytimme auton gpsn sijaan kännykkäni navigaattoria. Tämä toimi yllättävän hyvin, sillä se varoitti edessä olevista ruuhkista. Emme olleet paikkaa ensin löytää, mutta lopulta olimme perillä. Hongqiaon kukkamarkkinoilla oli paljon muutakin tavaraa. Kukkakimppujen, sisä-, ulko- ja tekokukkien lisäksi paikan päältä pystyi ostamaan paljon astioita ja keittiötarvikkeita. Löysimme myös paljon sisutusliikkeitä. Olisin halunnut ostaa vaikka mitä, mutta mukaan tuli vain jokunen astia ja orkidea kotiin. Kukan valinta oli vaikea, sillä markkinoilla oli ainakin viisi paikkaa, jotka möivät vain orkideoita. Värejä ja kokoja oli aivan liikaa, joten lopulta päädyin simppeliin valkoiseen. Orkideat eivät pidä Shanghain lämmöstä, joten saapa nähdä kuinka kauan se pysyy hengissä.

                                                                                                                                                            

On Saturday we headed over to the Hongqiao flower market. It is quite far away from our home, so I have never gone there before. Imagine buying flowers and taking them back by metro, it would not work at all. It took about one hour by car. The place was hard to find, but finally we came to the right place. Even though it is called a flower market, the place has so much more. In addition to all sorts of bouquets, home and outdoor plants, even plastic flowers, the market has also a wide selection of kitchenware and home decoration. I found so many things that I wanted to buy, but at this point there is no need for those things. One of these items included an old Chinese style sofa for two people.. hehe. Now maybe I can’t fit it in anywhere. I had also a problem with selecting an orchid. There were five shops specialized in selling just orchids and finding the right style and color took ages. I ended up taking a simple white one, as there were too many colors to choose just one. On the other hand orchids do not like the heat in Shanghai so let’s see how long it stays alive. 

Simpukoista koristeita

Merenranta pitkiin kulkevalla tiellä oli paljon kojuja, jotka möivät simpukankuorista tehtyjä koristeita. Teki mieli ostaa yhden ripustettavan koristeen, mutta en tiedä minne sen pistäisi. Jotenkin tuntuu oudolta, että tälläistäkin löytyy Shanghaista.  

                                                                                                                                                                

Along the shore there were lots of small shops selling decorations made out of sea shells. I would have liked to buy one decoration piece, but I have no idea where to put it. It seems a bit surreal to find shops selling these kinds of things in Shanghai, but actually if you think about it, you could probably find everything in this city, if you just know where to look. 

Saksalaiset tuliaiset

Saksalainen ystävä kävi Saksassa noin viikon verran. Hänen palattua Shanghaihin, hän toi tullessaan suklaata ja kynsilakkaa. Itse toin Suomesta tuliaisena lakua, ja ihme kyllä hän piti siitä todella paljon. Kiinalaiset toisaalla eivät lakuun ihastuneet, ja söin itse kaksi pussia. Saksalaisen vanhemmat ovat tulleet Shanghaihin pariksi viikoksi, joten emme ehdi seuraavien viikkojen aikana olla paljon yhteyksissä. Sillä Saksalainen on ainut länsimaalainen ystävä tällä alueella, olemme viime aikoina olleet paljon tekemisissä. Saapa nähdä paljonko ehdimme tavata syksyn aikana, ennen kun me molemmat palaamme kotimaihimme joulukuun aikana.

                                                                                                                                                                  

My German friend brought me some chocolate and nail polish from German as a gift. She had gone there for a week to meet some friends, since she hasn’t been home in over half a year. Her husband on the other hand had to stay in Shanghai and work during her trip. Soon after her trip to German, her parents arrived in Shanghai. In other words we don’t have time to meet as often as we usually do. Hopefully we will have more time during autumn, since we both will leave Shanghai during December. 

Merenrannalla

Tee juomisen jälkeen hyppäsimme autoon ja ajoimme merelle. En ole aikaisemmin nähnyt Shanghain merta, en ollut edes tietoinen, että sinne voi mennä. Luulin, ettei merenrannalla ole muuta näkemistä kuin rahtilaivoja. Olin osin oikeassa, sillä merellä oli paljon laivoja, ja itse asiassa ei paljon muuta nähtävää. Ihan rannalle asti on vaikea päästä. Parkkipaikalta oli noin 20 minuutin kävely siihen kohtaan, josta pääsimme kiipeämään alas alemmalle tasolle. Ranta oli kumminkin reunustettu jollain montulla, etteivät ihmiset nyt suoraan veteen juokse. Paikan päältä löytyy myös oikea hiekkaranta, josta pääsee uimaan mereen, mutta sisäänpääsy oli noin kymmenen euroa. Menemme sinne sitten ensi kerralla.

                                                                                                                                                                 

After we had ended the tea ceremony, we drove to the shore of Shanghai. I didn’t know there was anything to see or do. Actually I was somewhat correct, as the shore isn’t that fantastic. You cannot go swimming, as the current is pretty strong. They have also made it hard to go near the water. We had to walk for some 20 minutes before we arrived to the spot where you could climb down and go the actual shore. Lots of big ships drove past. The interesting part was that the shore is near to the airport, so lots of airplanes flew by pretty close. There is a beach, and from there you can go swimming, but since we didn’t have any gear with us, we didn’t pay the entrance fee to have a look. But maybe next time we will go there and go a swim in the sea. 

Teetalossa

CCn ystävä pyysi meidät mukaan grillaamaan. Sää oli sen verran tuulinen, että menimme sittenkin teetaloon. Luulisi, että teetalossa juodaan vaan teetä, mutta asiaan kuuluu, että syödään kaiken maailman pienannoksia. Pöytään tuotiin hedelmiä ja pähkinöitä, tämän lisäksi aina silloin tällöin saimme valita mitä kylmiä annoksia halusimme syödä. Aina tunnein välein saimme myös erilaisia lisäannoksia. Ensiksi saimme muna-leivoksia, sitten tuli kanankoipia, lopuksi tuli vielä jotain pikkuleipiä ja makeaa keittoa. Join ensiksi vihreätä teetä, mutta vaihdoin CCn kanssa ja otin hänen Pu’er –ruusu teen. Olimme teetalossa noin kolmisen tuntia, sillä aikaa ehdimme syödä, juoda, puhua ja pelata korttia.

                                                                                                                                                                 

CCs friend invited us to join him and his family for some grilling. The weather wasn’t too good, so instead we went to a tea house. I thought we would just be drinking tea, but we had lots of food to accompany the tea. Fruits and nuts were served right away and we were also offered different cold dishes. During every hour, one additional dish was served. First it was these delicious Portuguese egg-tarts, after this we had some chicken wings, the last thing was some Chinese pastry and bean soup. I drank some green tea and rose infused Pu’er tea. You can yourself pour more water and this means that you only need to order tea once. On the other hand one cup of tea costs some 80rmb. 

Mekko-räätälit

Kävimme jälleen kerran räätälimarkkinoilla, taitaa olla jopa neljäs viikonloppu putkeen. Ajoimme autolla keskustaan, ja mukana oli CCn sisko, hänen poikaystävä ja poikaystävän isä. Kävimme ensin isommilla räätälimarkkinoilla hakemassa heidän puvut ja mekon. Olimme paikalla jo ennen yhdeksää, joten kaikki paikat eivät olleet avanneet. Sillä aikaa kun odotimme, ehdin käydä ostamassa kaksi huivia ja kaksi koristetyynyliinaa. Ajoimme vielä pienimille markkinoille, jossa minun mekkoni oli. Liike ei kuitenkaan ollut yhdeksän jälkeen vielä avannut. Soitimme myyjälle, joka siihen aikaan oi vielä nukkumassa. Hän saapui 20-minuutissa paikalle, mutta pääsin vain kokeilemaan ensimmäistä osaa. Mekkoon kuuluu myös pitsi toppi, jota he eivät varmaan ole edes aloittaneet tekemään. On Saturday we went for the fourth time to the tailor market. We drove to the city and had CCs sister, her boyfriend and the boyfriend’s father with us. First we went to the bigger tailor market to pick up their suits and dresses, but as we arrived so early, before nine o’clock, most places hadn’t even opened up. During the wait I bought some pillowcases and scarfs. After this we drove off to the smaller market, where I had ordered a dress to be made. This place was also closed, but when we called, the seller came after twenty minutes and I could try on the dress. It wasn’t finished, so next week I have to go back for the fifth time.. 

Kettureppu markkinoilla

Minulla on ollut paljon inhokki laukkuja, joita en koskaan voinut kuvitella käyttäväni, Marimekko, Louis Vuitton ja Fjällräven. No kaksi ensimmäistä olen jo jonkin aikaa käyttänyt, joten eiköhän se kolmaskin siirry käyttöön. Ehkä maku on muuttunut, tai sitten vastaan tulee vain näitä merkkilaukkuja halpaan hintaan, joista en aikaisemmin niin kalliita hintoja olisi maksanut. En vielä reppua ostanut, sillä Saksalainekin haluaa ostaa oman, joten ostetaan sitten yhdessä halvemmalla. Kånken reppu löytyy ihan Shanghain liikkeistä, mutta hinta on usein Suomen hintoja korkeampi. Kerran olen jopa nähnyt tytöllä kyseisen repun Shanghain kaduilla.

                                                                                                                                                                   

I used to have different bag brands that I didn’t like at all. Now my taste seems to have changed as I have started using bags from these brands. I didn’t like Louis Vuitton, since it was too much logo and usually fake, but now I got the Twist bag. I didn’t like Finnish Marimekko, but as I had lived in Shanghai for I while I felt like using Finnish brands and things was more important. Now the latest one is Fjällräven backpack. Lots of Finnish people have this bag, but I just thought it was expensive. Now the Swedish bag has found its way to Shanghai and all the way to the S&T market. I really like the colors, and why not buy a backpack for travelling? I haven’t bought one yet, as the German girl also wants one, so we will buy them together to get a cheaper price.

Ennen kun palasin kesällä Suomeen, ehdin poiketa tee-markkinoilla. Olin paikasta lukenut, mutta en oikein osannut kuvitella, miltä teemarkkinat oikeasti näyttävät. Kolme kerrosta ja kolme rakennusta. Ensimmäisessä kerroksessa myytiin perus vihreää teetä ja muita pieniä sekoituspakkauksia. Toisessa kerroksessa oli Pu´er teetä, eli vihreän ja mustan teen välimuoto. Toisessa ja ylimmässä kerroksessa oli myös tarvikkeita, kuten kuppeja ja kannuja. Kävimme kahdessa liikkeessä ostamassa teetä, ja molemmissa tarjottiin teetä juotavaksi. Ensimmäisessä kokeilimme eri kukka- ja hedelmä- tee makuja, mutta toisessa istuimme jo yli tunnin juomassa. Myyjä piti meille pienimuotoisen tee seremonian ja kokeilimme kahta tai kolme eri Puer teetä ja yhtä Oolong teetä. Puer teissä hinta vaihteli iän mukaan. Kuusi vuotta vanha pakkaus maksoi yli viisitoista euroa, kun taas yli kymmenen vuotta vanha maksoi jo lähemmäs sata euroa. Näitä teekakku-pakkauksia kannattaisi siis ostaa säilytykseen, ja ottaa esiin sitten viiden vuoden kuluttua.

                                                                                                                                                            

Before going back to Finland in the summer, I had some time to visit the tianshan tea city. It was quite far away, on the other side of the city. I didn’t know what to expect from the city, but it consisted of three buildings with different stuff on three floors. The first floor had some basic green tea and some cute gift sets. On this floor we tried some flower and fruit tea. I also bought some nice tea, which are flowers, that open up when put into hot water. On the second floor we drank Puer tea for a couple of hours. Most shops conduct tea ceremonies for potential customers, but after drinking a lot, you are obliged to buy. Puer tea gets better with age, so the six year old package that I bought cost some 100rmb where as a package that is over ten years old cost closer to 800rmb. The third floor had cups and other tea accessories. The place is quite good, but you have to know wht kind of tea you are looking for before heading this way.

Jo toinen viikonloppu tuli vietettyä samaan malliin, kuin viimeviikonloppunakin. Lauantaina käytiin räätälimarkkinoilla ja sunnuntaina S&T markkinoilla. Minun vakioliikkeellä oi jotain vaatteita poistohinnoin, joten varasin itselleni Dolce and Gabbanan hameen. Liikkeessä ei kuitenkaan ollut paikan pomo, vaan jotkut muut myyjät, joita en aikaisemmin ollut nähnyt. Sanoin, että olin jo pomon kanssa jutellut hinnasta, mutta myyjä halusi varmistaa asian, ja pyysi minun näyttävän hinnan kirjoitettuna. Puhelimen netti ei kuitenkaan toiminut, joten sanoin, että soita itse pomollesi ja kysele. Ei tarvinnut soittaa, vaan sain hameen siihen hintaan kun sen piti ollakin. Olen aika varma, että pomo juhlii yöt pitkät ja saapuu itse liikkeeseen vasta iltapäivällä, joten muut alaiset eivät uskalla häiritä häntä.

Samasta liikkeestä oli tarkoitus ostaa ballerinaa tossut, jotka joustavat. Emme päässeet hinnasta yhteisymmärrykseen, joten markkinoilla lähdin metsästämään vastaavia. Ekasta liikkeestä löytyi, mutta ei oikeata kokoa. Viidennessä kenkäliikkeessä tuli vastaan samanmalliset, ja sain ne viidellätoista eurolla. Myyjä yritti saada minua maksamaan kolme euroa lisään, sillä selityksellä, että hän voisi syödä. Muut myyjät olivat siis liikkeessä lounaalla. Olen tietoinen, etteivät myyjät myy, mikäli hinta menee liian alas, joten vastasin vain että myy nyt äkkiä ne kengät niin pääset syömään itsekin. Hehe. Toimi hyvin.

Olen etsinyt hyvää työlaukkua, ja ohi mennessä huomasin kivan värisen MK laukun. Myyjälle sanoin tuttuun tapaan, että maksan laukusta viisitoista euroa ja olin jo matkalla ulos kun hän sanoi perääni että sopii. Sinisen laukun sisällä oli pienempi laukku, johon voi kiinnittää pitkän olkahihnan, mutta se sopii myös sisä pussina, sillä isoa laukkua ei voi sulkee vetoketjulla.

Loppuun voi lisätä, että kävin vielä kaupassa ostamassa suurimaksi osaa länsimaalaisia tuotteita, kuten jauhelihaa, muroja ja tonnikalaa, ja kassillinen ruokaa maksoi enemmän kun nämä tuotteet yhteensä. Eli kalleimmat tuotteet Shanghaissa ovat usein ruokatuotteet.

                                                                                                                                                                   

This weekend was almost the same as last weekend. On Saturday we went to the tailor market and on Sunday we went to the S&T market. I had reserved a skirt in my favourite shop, as the seller had it on sale. When I arrived at her shop, she wasn’t there. Instead there were a couple of other sellers that I didn’t know. I told them that I had already discussed the price, but they wanted proof. Unfortunately my mobile data didn’t work, so I couldn’t show them, and asked them to call her instead. I believe the owner is partying all the time and only shows up in the shop in the afternoon, so they didn’t call her, and gave the skirt to me for the price that I said.

I had wanted to buy ballerina flats from the same shop, but they were too expensive. I looked around and found the similar one that I wanted, but they didn’t have size 39! So I continued looking and in the fifth store they had the same model and perfect size. I didn’t bargain a lot but the seller still tried to get me to pay 20rmb more, so that she could also “afford eating” like the rest of the sellers in the store. I know they would never sell if they don’t make a profit, so I stuck to my original price of 100rmb and got the pair.

I also waked past a bag shop and found this color that I like a lot. I asked the price but as usually I told the seller I would buy it for 100rmb and walked out. In 3 seconds he was ready to sell it for that price. I got two bags, one large and one in side that also has a long strap. Since the large bag can’t be closed, the small one comes in handy to keep valuables safer.

Yu Yuan puiston ja räätälimarkkinoiden lähettyviltä löytyi ihana pieni astia-liike. Samalla kadulla oli pari muuta liikettä, mutta niissä ei ollut näin upeita tuotteita. Ihastuin jokaiseen kulhoon, ja mukaan tuli kaksi teepussilautasta, kaksi kulhoa ja yksi lusikka. Katsoin ensin uusia kulhoja, kunnes huomasin myyjän pään yläpuolella olevat vanhat kulhot. Uusi ja vanha, eli noin 70-luvulta oleva kulho maksoivat saman verran, eli 4euroa. Teepussilautaset taas olivat noin euron. Kulhoilla olisi tarvetta, mutta mikäli ostan Kiinassa, ne hajoavat melko nopeasti, sillä perhe ei ole tottunut mihinkään ekstraan. Esim. Ikean kahvikuppi hajosi ei niin kauan sitten, eli nyt minulla on kuppeja kaksi ja lasimukeja kaksi, sitä ennen talossa juotiin riisikulhoista…

                                                                                                                                                                

Near Yu Yuan Garden, I found lots of shops selling bowls and plates. Some of them didn’t even look new, but in one shop I found some really good looking pieces. At first I asked the prices for some teabag plates and a bowl with a spoon, but after that I found some really nice looking old bowls and pots. They were almost hidden on a shelf above the shop owner. I also bought one of the old one that was made in the 1970s. The shop keeper was quite surprised that I was interested in old Chinese pottery. The old and new one, both cost 25rmb, even though the old one is hand painted and the new one is just printed. I might consider going back there and buying some more pieces as these were some of the most reasonably prices that I have found. The bowls I bought some while a back at the Antique street cost some 40rmb a piece after I had bargained.
