New sports outfit

Lululemonin urheiluvaateet tulivat suosituksi Kiinan markkinoilla noin vuosi sitten. Siitä lähtien tätä merkkiä näkee monen naisen päällä kuntosalilla. Itse en edes tiennyt koko merkistä mitään, ennen kun huomasin nämä kukkatrikoot markkinoilla. Pitkään mietin, ostanko vai enkö, taisi mennä yli puoli vuotta ennen kun ostin ne siitä lähtien kun olin ensin ajatellut hankkivani ne. Löysin yhden kauppiaan S&M markkinoilta, joka oli aikaisemmin myynyt minulle Lululemonin trikoot ja samanlaisen pitkähihaisen, mutta pinkin, noin 40 euron yhteishintaan. Toisella kerralla tuli sitten tämä satsi, trikoilla ja harmaalla pitkähihaisella ostettua. Tuotteet ovat suurimmaksi osaa muotoiltu yogaa varten, mutta hyvin en muuhunkin liikuntaan sopeutuvat.

Niken kengätkin tuli hankittua, sillä en halua kuluttaa punttikenkiäni ihan loppuun. Olen viimeisten kahden vuoden aikana käyttänyt vain yhtä paria aina mennessäni kuntosalille, ja nyt olisi aika antaa niille vähän lepoa. Kun nyt on hankittu sen verran paljon mustaa vaatetta kuntosalille, oli aika lisätä vähän väriä. Lenkkarit tilattiin meidän kenkäkontaktin kautta, joten hinnaksi tuli noin 45 euroa. Kengät kyllä tuottivat meille enemmän harmia kuin hyvää. Tilasin ne ensin koossa 39, sillä aikaisemmat Niken kengät olivat sen kokoiset. Ne olivat kumminkin liian isot, joten palautimme ne ja tilasimme koon 38. Uudet kengät olivatkin eriparia, eli saimme yhden 37,5 ja yhden 38. Olisihan se varmaan toiminut, mutta palautimme ne jälleen ja saimme lopulta, monen viikon vaihtelun jälkeen, oikean kokoiset kengät.

It was actually quite challenging to buy my new sports outfit. The lululemon leggings were something I wanted to buy some six months ago, but never did, until now. I liked the pattern, but sometimes the shops in the S&M market are so intimidating, so I didn’t dare ask for the price. However, before returning to Finland in the winter, I bought a set of leggings and the same long sleeved shirt from a guy at the market. CC helped me haggle the price down to 250rmb, to be noted they cost separately even more at some stalls. The next time we went there I returned to the same place and took a pair of leggings and the shirt for the same price. The guy was first confused over the price, but then he was like whatever, and sold them.

The Nike shoes are a different story. I ordered size 39 from our contact, who gets the shoes from the factories. I have Nike running shoes in the same size, but this time they were too large. So we returned the shoes by post and asked for a 38 instead. What I got after some days was one 38 and one 37,5! Maybe it could have worked, but we still sent them back and after waiting for even longer I finally got the correct size. 

Syksyn ostoksia

Tässä viimeisimmät ostokset tältä erää. Löysimme taas kenkä myyjän, jolta saa halvalla merkki kengät suoraan tehtaalta. Vanhat Vans kengät ovat olleet käytössä lähemmäs viisi vuotta, joten eiköhän ole aika vaihtaa uusiin. Teki mieli myös ostaa samantapaisella kukkakuosilla varustetut Niken lenkkarit, mutta tyydyn näihin niin kauan kun ulkona pystyy kävelemään kangaskengillä.

Netistä tilasin Maison Michelin hatun, sillä se on nyt todella suosittu Shanghaissa. Tälläisiä hattuja löytyy monesta kaupasta, mutta usein melko kalliita. Netistä, eli Taobaosta, löytyy eri hintaluokissa, ja tämä oli siitä halvimmasta päästä. Ei mitään parasta laatua, mutta malliltaan näyttää hyvältä.

Sitten vielä viimeiseksi Fjällräven reppu tuli ostettua markkinoilta. Ostin vaalean sinisen repun jo pari kuukautta sitten, ja se on ollut ahkerassa käytössä jumppalaukkuna. Liila reppu sopii paremmin retkirepuksi. Tälläistä täällä Kiinassa voi ostaa yhteensä viidelläkymmenellä eurolla.

                                                                                                                                                                    

Here are my latest buys from Autumn. We found a new sneaker guy, as the last one quit, and from this one I bought some Vans sneakers. The come straight from the factory with a lower price than what you get from the stores. I wanted to buy some Nike sneakers with a similar flower motive, but maybe I should stick with this as long as possible.

I also wanted to buy a Maison Michel hat for quite some time. I just found expensive ones in shops, so ended up buying a cheaper one from Taobao instead. The quality is not good, but I like the style and fit. These hats are really popular in Shanghai right now.

Another thing that is getting more popular is Fjällräven backpacks. I bought a light blue one some months ago, which I have used as my gym bag. The bag was so good that I bought a second one in lila. I have started to notice lots of Chinese people using the Fjällräven bag, but not nearly as much as I have seen in Finland. All of these things together cost less than 400rmb.

Jo toinen viikonloppu tuli vietettyä samaan malliin, kuin viimeviikonloppunakin. Lauantaina käytiin räätälimarkkinoilla ja sunnuntaina S&T markkinoilla. Minun vakioliikkeellä oi jotain vaatteita poistohinnoin, joten varasin itselleni Dolce and Gabbanan hameen. Liikkeessä ei kuitenkaan ollut paikan pomo, vaan jotkut muut myyjät, joita en aikaisemmin ollut nähnyt. Sanoin, että olin jo pomon kanssa jutellut hinnasta, mutta myyjä halusi varmistaa asian, ja pyysi minun näyttävän hinnan kirjoitettuna. Puhelimen netti ei kuitenkaan toiminut, joten sanoin, että soita itse pomollesi ja kysele. Ei tarvinnut soittaa, vaan sain hameen siihen hintaan kun sen piti ollakin. Olen aika varma, että pomo juhlii yöt pitkät ja saapuu itse liikkeeseen vasta iltapäivällä, joten muut alaiset eivät uskalla häiritä häntä.

Samasta liikkeestä oli tarkoitus ostaa ballerinaa tossut, jotka joustavat. Emme päässeet hinnasta yhteisymmärrykseen, joten markkinoilla lähdin metsästämään vastaavia. Ekasta liikkeestä löytyi, mutta ei oikeata kokoa. Viidennessä kenkäliikkeessä tuli vastaan samanmalliset, ja sain ne viidellätoista eurolla. Myyjä yritti saada minua maksamaan kolme euroa lisään, sillä selityksellä, että hän voisi syödä. Muut myyjät olivat siis liikkeessä lounaalla. Olen tietoinen, etteivät myyjät myy, mikäli hinta menee liian alas, joten vastasin vain että myy nyt äkkiä ne kengät niin pääset syömään itsekin. Hehe. Toimi hyvin.

Olen etsinyt hyvää työlaukkua, ja ohi mennessä huomasin kivan värisen MK laukun. Myyjälle sanoin tuttuun tapaan, että maksan laukusta viisitoista euroa ja olin jo matkalla ulos kun hän sanoi perääni että sopii. Sinisen laukun sisällä oli pienempi laukku, johon voi kiinnittää pitkän olkahihnan, mutta se sopii myös sisä pussina, sillä isoa laukkua ei voi sulkee vetoketjulla.

Loppuun voi lisätä, että kävin vielä kaupassa ostamassa suurimaksi osaa länsimaalaisia tuotteita, kuten jauhelihaa, muroja ja tonnikalaa, ja kassillinen ruokaa maksoi enemmän kun nämä tuotteet yhteensä. Eli kalleimmat tuotteet Shanghaissa ovat usein ruokatuotteet.

                                                                                                                                                                   

This weekend was almost the same as last weekend. On Saturday we went to the tailor market and on Sunday we went to the S&T market. I had reserved a skirt in my favourite shop, as the seller had it on sale. When I arrived at her shop, she wasn’t there. Instead there were a couple of other sellers that I didn’t know. I told them that I had already discussed the price, but they wanted proof. Unfortunately my mobile data didn’t work, so I couldn’t show them, and asked them to call her instead. I believe the owner is partying all the time and only shows up in the shop in the afternoon, so they didn’t call her, and gave the skirt to me for the price that I said.

I had wanted to buy ballerina flats from the same shop, but they were too expensive. I looked around and found the similar one that I wanted, but they didn’t have size 39! So I continued looking and in the fifth store they had the same model and perfect size. I didn’t bargain a lot but the seller still tried to get me to pay 20rmb more, so that she could also “afford eating” like the rest of the sellers in the store. I know they would never sell if they don’t make a profit, so I stuck to my original price of 100rmb and got the pair.

I also waked past a bag shop and found this color that I like a lot. I asked the price but as usually I told the seller I would buy it for 100rmb and walked out. In 3 seconds he was ready to sell it for that price. I got two bags, one large and one in side that also has a long strap. Since the large bag can’t be closed, the small one comes in handy to keep valuables safer. 

Nike Air Maxit

Taas tuli uudet kengät ostettua. On hankala olla ostamatta kun täällä saa tehtaalta suoraan ostettua vähän yli kolmella kympillä samat kengät kun Suomessa tai täällä kaupassa maksaa yli sata euroa. Aikaisemmin sain lahjaksi pinkki-mustat Air Maxit, ja sillä ne olivat sen verran hyvät jalassa, jatkan samalla mallilla. Kultaiset olisivat myös löytyneet, mutta hopea sopii paremmin eriväreihin yhdistettynä. Tällä hetkellä Shanghaissa Nikein Air Maxit ovat suosituin kenkämerkki, kun taas viime vuonna se oli New Balance.

                                                                                                                                                                   

Once again I had to buy a new pair of sneakers. The reason for this is that I can get the same pair for 240rmb that in shops or in Finland cost 900rmb. I already have a pair of pink-black Air Max back home, but the model is great so I wanted one more. Instead of choosing the golden pair I thought that silver goes well together with the colors of my clothes. Last year New Balance was the hottest shoe, but nowadays I see more people wearing Nike Air Maxes on the streets. 

UGG mokkasiinit

Kengät näyttävät enemmän talvisääksi sopiviksi, mutta minä niitä käytän nyt kun on jo yli parikymmentä astetta ulkona. Kengät huomasin monta kuukautta sitten Science and Technology markkinoilla, mutta en oikein tiennyt pitäisikö minun ne ostaa vai ei. Vasta palattuani Aasian matkalta menin ne ostamaan, mutta silloinkin se oli melko hankalaa kun markkinoilla oli ratsia käynnissä, ja mitään arvokasta tai paremman merkkisiä tuotteita ei ollut esillä. Lopulta myyjä kävi minulle hakemassa kengät ja todella pitkän tinkimisen jälkeen sain ne ostettua vähän yli kolmellakymmenellä eurolla. Mokkasiinit ovat todella mukavat jalassa ja hyvän laatuiset sekä päältäpäin että sisältä. Sanotaan nyt Uggien nimeen, että vuori on sitä lammasta, mutta vaikka ei olisikaan, se on silti erittäin pehmeätä. Kiinassa monet naiset käyttävät mokkasiineja, kun taas miehet voivat käyttää samannäköisiä nahkaisia kenkiä.

Even though winter is already long gone, I just started using my Ugg shoes. Of course they are moccasins and not boots, so even though there are over twenty degrees Celsius outside I can still wear them without being too uncomfortable. I had been looking at the shoes for some while, but decided to buy them after my Asia trip in February. This was probably the hardest price negotiation I have ever had and lasted for a really long time. The reason might be that the Science and Technology market had lots of policemen going around looking for counterfeit goods, so the shopkeepers didn’t want to bring any valuable products into the stores during this time. In the end I paid more than I had planned but I got the moccasins for 250rmb. The shoes aren’t the most stylish but on the other hand they are popular and used by lots of Chinese people. They are also very comfortable and mine have turned out to be really well made and are of pretty high quality.

Stella McCartney for Adidas

Labor Dayta vietettiin Kiinassa ensimmäinen päivä toukokuuta. Olin jo viime viikonloppuna halunnut lähteä outlettiin shoppailemaan, mutta minulle oli kerrottu, että kuun alussa alennukset vasta alkaisivat kaupoissa, joten oli parempi odottaa. Olin luullut että Shanghaissa on vain yksi outlet city, joka on noin kolmentunnin matkan päässä, kaupungin ulkopuolella. Olin väärässä ja selvisi että outlettaja onkin neljä, joista yksi on melko lähelläkin. Otimme bussin pääkadulta ja matkustimme sillä noin kolmekymmentä minuuttia, kunnes jäimme pois ja vaihdoimme toiseen bussilinjaan. Toisella bussilla menimme vain kolme pysäkkiä, ja sitten olimmekin jo perillä. Vaikka päivä oli todella kuuma, lähemmäs kolmekymmentä astetta, matkat sujuivat melko hyvin. Olin odottanut että tässä outleteissa ei olisi minulle mitään tai että hinnat olisivat ihan kohtuuttomia, joten en ottanut paljon käteistä mukaan. Paikka olikin ihan mahtava ja alennukset vielä parempia. Poikaystävä oli ollut oikeassa sanoessa, että alet alkavat vasta tänään, sillä paikka oli täynnä paikallisia ostoksilla ja monessa paikkaa outlet hinnoista tippui vielä puolet tai jopa enemmänkin pois.

Paikka oli moderni, ja jaettu noin neljään viiteen rakennukseen, jossa jokaisessa oli noin kaksikymmentä liikettä. Urheilupuolella oli Nike, Adidas, Vans, Lacoste, Converse ja isomäärä ulkoilmavaatemerkkejä. Normaaleja länsimaalaisia merkkejä oli myös paljon kuten Guess, GAP, Esprit, Levis, LEE ne. Paikalla oli lisäksi vielä paljon liikkeitä, joissa oli myynnissä eri merkkejä, eikä vaan yhtä ja samaa. Suuntasimme ensiksi Adidaksen, josta löysin heti Stella McCarneyn suunnitelleen takin, jota olin jo vuosi sitten Suomen Stockmannilla katsellut. Silloin hinta oli ollut ihan älytön, ja olihan se vieläkin aika kallis, mutta kun olin sitä jo pitkään miettinyt ostavani niin kyllä se 70% alennus helpotti päätöksentekoa. Olen muutenkin aina Stella McCartneyn vaatteiden perässä, eli Adidas liikkeestä oli vaikea päästä ulos kun niitä vaatteita oli tarjolla niin paljon. Pistin ensiksi takin ja yhdet legginsit kassalle varukseen, kun en tiennyt olinko valmis maksamaan niistä niin paljon, mutta lopulta palasin hakemaan ihanuudet. Voin vain sanoa, että ei ne mitenkään halpoja olleet, mutta samalla kun katsoo alkuperäishintoja eli takki noin 363€ ja legginsit vähän yli 100€, niin maksamani hinnat eivät olleet mitään suuria.

Kiertelimme hetken sadanmiljoonan muun kiinalasien kanssa liikkeissä, kunnes siirryimme ulos. Alue oli todella kaunis, sillä se sijaitsi Huangpu joen äärellä ja ilma oli raikkaan merimäinen. Joen äärellä oli laitureissa sekä isoja konttilaivoja sekä luksusjahteja. Palasimme taas sisään ja menimme länsimaalaisten merkkien myyvään I.T myymälään. Kenkäosastolla tuli ensimmäistä kertaan vastaan Jeffrey Campbellin kenkiä, eli niitä en ole vielä missään muualla nähnyt. Näitä kenkiä tuli sitten sovitettua jonkin aikaan kunnes eteen tuli nahkasandaalit, jotka tuntuivat jalassa niin mukavalta, että vaikka niissä oli pieniä virheitä, tuli nekin ostettua hyvillä alennuksilla. Näidenkin alkuperäishinta oli 260€, mutta alennuksilla ne olivat halvempia, kun mitä saman merkkiset kengät Suomessa saa ale-aikoihin. Olisin vielä halunnut ostaa Lacosten kesä-kengät, mutta käteistä ei enää ollut, joten menin automaatille nostaakseni lisään rahaa. Rahan sijaan koneesta tuli ulos kuitti, jossa kerrottiin summan hyväksytyksi, ja kortti tuli rahoitta ulos. Siinä sitten tunnin keskustelut infopisteen työntekijöiden kanssa, siitä että mitä rahoilleni tapahtui. Kävimme automaattiakin yhdessä tarkastamassa, ja selvisi, että siinä ei enää ollut rahaa. Emme siis tienneet mitä rahoille tapahtui, vai tapahtuiko mitään, mutta kun käteistä ei enää ollut emme voineet tehdä muuta kun palata kotiin.

Labor Day was celebrated in China on the first of May so we headed out for some outlet shopping on that day. I had wanted to go there one the weekend, but I was told that the sales would only start when May began. This seemed to be legit, as we arrived and the place was packed with locals. Beforehand I had believed that Shanghai only had one outlet city a three-hour-drive outside the city, but this wasn’t true, as the city had at least four, and some of them are pretty close-by. We took a bus from the main road and after a thirty minute drive we got off and changed to another bus line. We only passed three stops and then got off, so it wasn’t too far. The place was new and modern and the shops were dived into maybe four or five buildings. One section had mostly sports and outdoor gear brands such as Nike, Adidas, Lacoste, Vans, Puma, Reebok, NB, North Face etc. Also international brands such as Guess, GAP, Esprit, Levis and Lee could be found just to name the ones I remember seeing. Most places had pretty nice sales which meant that from the outlet prices half or even more was reduced.

We started off by going to Adidas store. It was huge and crowded but I still managed to find the section I like the most: Stella McCartney for Adidas. There were lots of clothes and to my delight I found a jacket I had been looking at back in Finland a year ago. At first I hesitated as the price wasn’t too low, but as it still was about -65% I took it and a pair of leggings and handed over to the cashier so I could think about it. In the end I didn’t have to thinks too hard, as I had wanted to buy the jacket for a long time, so I saw this as my last chance to have it and bought it. After seeing what Nike had to offer we went outside as it was a sunny and warm day, with about +30 degrees Celsius. The outlet was located next to the Huangpu river and the air was fresh from the ocean breeze. The riverbanks had lots of large ships anchored as well as some luxury yachts.

After a while in the sun we returned inside and went to I.T a pretty expensive shop with international brands. At the shoe department I found for the first time Jeffery Campbell shoes. I probably tried on all of them until I found a pair of nude leather sandals that were so comfortable, that even the small mistakes didn’t bother. I also ended up buying them for a nice -70% discount and leaving me with no cash. My attempt to withdraw cash wasn’t too successful as I got a receipt stating that the transaction was made but no cash came out from the automate. We headed home in the end, after talking with the staff and the bank and not knowing what happened to my money. 

Limited edition NB-kengät

Kiinassa, jos ei myös muissa maissa, on ilmiö, että monilla pariskunnilla on samanlaiset kengät päällä. Pari-kenkien lisäksi olen huomannut myös mm. pari-t-paitoja, eli siis tytöllä ja pojalla on molemmilla samanmalliset ja merkkiset vaateet tai kengät. Tämä pari-teema meni pidemmälle nyt kun minulla on samat kengät yhdessä kolmen muun hengen kanssa. Kengät sain lahjaksi tällein yllättäen. New Balance merkkiset kengät eivät ole suosikkejani, mutta ne ovat Kiinassa todella suosittuja. Punainen värikään ei ole minun vaatteiden kanssa oikein sopiva, mutta Kiinassa sen ollessa tärkeä, ehkä ei yhden parin omistaminen niin kauheata voi olla. Paremmaksi tämän kenkäparin tekee sen lisäksi, että ne olivat lahja, myös se että ne ovat limited edition Hevosen vuosi mallia. Moni merkki tekee siis joka vuosi Limited edition kokoelmia uuden vuoden eläimistä.

In China I have seen lots of couples wearing the same clothing or shoes. The couple-shoe is more popular and this means that both the girl and the boy has the same brand, style and colored shoes on at the same time. This was taken to an extreme as I was given a pair of New Balance shoes as a present, so that I would be part of a group of four people having the exact same shoes. NB shoes as well as red color isn’t my favorites, but as both of them are really popular in China, I better get used to them both. The shoes I got are part of NB limited edition collection for the Year of the Horse, so I won’t be getting these anywhere later on. The shoes are comfortable, and as I just threw away my NB shoes I bought in a market, I will have some use of these, even though the color only goes with black and not that much else. 

UGG-saappaat halvalla ostettua

Pääsyy miksi lähdin markkinoille oli ostaakseni Ugg-saappaat talvea varten. Olin aikaisemmin katsellut matalavartisia Ugg saappaitta joilla oli iso karva reunus. Olin kumminkin liian myöhässä ja kokoani ei löytynyt haluamaani hintaan. Yhdessä liikkeessä sanoessani haluavani maksaa niistä noin kolmetoista euroa myyjä näytti minulle perus malliset Uggsit ja sanoi voivansa myydä ne minulle siihen hintaan. Ainoastaan vaalean siniset olivat makuuni, mutta heillä oli vain koko 40 jäljellä. Sanoin, etten halua niitä ostaa, sillä ne ovat liian suuret. Myyjä pudotti hinnan satasesta yhdeksäänkymmeneen RMB, mutta sanoin, etten tee niillä mitään, sillä ne ovat liian suuret. Myyjä jatkoi hinnan pudottamista seitsemäänkymmeneen asti. Lopulta hän sanoi, että jos pistän kenkiin sisäpohjat, ne eivät olisi liian isot. Lopulta ostin kengät yhdeksällä eurolla ja sain sisäpohjat kaupan päälle. Halvalla kengät kyllä lähti, sillä he melko varmasti möivät ne minulle alle sisänosto hinnan.

The main reason for why I went to the S&T market was to buy Ugg boots before winter arrives. I had been looking at some ankle high boots with a fur trimming, but I either couldn’t get the boots in my size or to the price I wanted to pay for them. In one of the shops I said I could pay 100RMB for the boots I wanted but they started showing me the basic model instead for that price. The only ones I was interested in were a pair of light blue Uggs, but they only had them in size 40, one size too big for me. I told them that I don’t want shoes that are too big. The seller dropped the price immediately to 90 but I told her that they were too big. The seller continued to drop the price all the way to 70RMB, but I still told her that I won’t use boots that are too big. In the end I got the shoes since she gave innersoles for the same price. This was the first time a seller drops the price for me until I just think it too cheap not to buy.  

NB-kengät

Minulla oli pitkään Nike-lenkkarit jokapäiväisessä käytössä. Käytin niitä aina sekä ulkona kävellessäni että puntille mennessäni. Lopulta päätin mennä ostamaan toiset lenkkarit, jotta Nikeit eivät kuluisi heti loppuun. Shanghai Science & Technology Museon markkinoilla on paljon liikkeitä, jotka myyvät kenkiä. Tarjolla on iso määrä New Balance kenkiä erivärisinä, mutta malli on aina sama. En ollut NB-kengistä ennen piitannut ollenkaan, mutta melkein kaikilla täällä Shanghaissa on ainakin yksi pari, joten pakkohan niiden hyvät olla? Löysin haluamani väriyhdistelmän eli limevihreä yhdistettynä fuksiaan, ja pitkän keskustelun jälkeen sain kengät viidellätoista eurolla. Nyt kengät ovat olleet melkein joka päiväsessä käytössä, käyttäessäni Nike lenkkareita vain kuntosaliin mennessäni ja NB lenkkarit vapaalla ajalla. Luulin jopa, että markkinoilta ostetut kengät eivät tule tuntumaan hyvältä jalassa, mutta olin väärässä, sillä ne ovat todella mukavat ja olen kävellyt niillä pitkiä matkojakin. Saatampa jopa mennä ostamaan toisen väriset parit mikäli saan ne samaan hintaan tai halvemmalla.

For a long time I only walked with my Nike shoes on. Since I didn’t want them to break too soon I decided to go and buy another pair of sneakers. I went to the Science and Technology Museum market, which has lots of shops selling shoes. New Balance shoes can be seen in the city everywhere but I hadn’t been interested in the brand before. But since I found a pair in lime green and fuchsia, the two colors I use the most at the moment, I finally bought the sneakers for 115RMB. At first I thought that the shoes wouldn’t be that good to walk in since I got them from a market and not a real footwear store, but they are actually so great to walk in that I’m thinking of buying another pair in some other color.

Kello kymmeneltä sunnuntai aamuna heräsin tanskalaisen soittaessa kysyäkseen mihin aikaan olen valmis lähtemään shoppailemaan. Noin tunnin myöhemmin otimme taxit ja jatkoimme metrolla Science and Technology Museon metroaseman markkinoille. Hajaannuimme, koska oli helpompaa mennä yhdessä toisen kanssa joka etsii samoja tuotteita. Minä ja tanskalainen tyttö olimme etsimässä talvi-vaatteita ja –kenkiä, sillä päättelimme, että hinnat ovat vielä kohtuulliset kun lämpötila ulkona on +26, ja myös sitten kun pakkanen iskee olemme valmistuneet. Aloitimme kengistä ja menimme varmaan viiteen eri liikkeeseen ennen kun saimme sovittua sopivan hinnan. Ostimme molemmat Hunter –saappaat noin kolmella kympillä. Hintaan kuului myös saappaisiin sopivat pitkät fleece-sukat, ja valitsin vaaleanpunaiset sukat mustiin saappaisiini. Olin myös etsimässä Ugg bootseja, mutta hinta ei ollut sopiva ja muutenkin Ugg valikoima on valtava markkinoilla, joten ensi kerralla pitäisi tietää minkä mallisia etsii ja mitä olen valmis maksamaan niistä.

Tiesin jo Kiinaan tullessani haluavani Canadan Goose untuva-takin. Kokeilin erimallisia ja kokoisia kahdessa kaupassa. Toisessa kaupassa mukava myyjä kertoi, että takit ovat eri laatuisia, ja että hän ei voi laske hintaa koska valitsemani takki on parempaa laatua. Myyjä oli jopa niin rehellinen, että sanoessani voivan maksaa toisesta takista 300RMB hän sanoi myyvänsä sen minulle 250RMB. Kauppoja ei kuitenkaan tullut vaan jatkoimme matkaan. Sain neuvottelujen jälkeen oikean värisen, mallisen ja kokoisen takin toisesta kaupasta. Usein jos ei kauppiaalla ole oikeaa väriä tai kokoa hän käy hakemassa sen ”varastostaan”, ja niin tässäkin tapauksessa kävi kun ei sinistä takkia liikkeestä löytynyt. Sain ensin väärän koon ja kymmenen minuutin jälkeen sain lopulta oikean koon. Pienen väittelyn jälkeen sain takin viidellä kympillä vaikka alkuhinta yhdessä kaupassa oli lähempänä kahtasataa euroa. Ei sekään sinänsä mikään hinta ole kun oikeat takit maksavat 500–800 euroa.

I was waked up on Sunday morning by a phone call from one of the Danes. They wanted to know when I’m ready to go shopping so after one hour we were taking taxis to the metro. We took the metro all the way to Science and Technology Museum. I was looking for winter clothes and shoes and so was the Danish girl as well. We split up into two groups so that everybody didn’t need to go to stores with things they weren’t interested in. Even though it is still about +26 degrees her in Shanghai, we assumed that it would be good to buy winter clothes now before they can start lifting the prices. We started by looking for shoes. I wanted to buy Ugg boots, but there are so many different styles to choose from in the market so I’m going to buy the shoes next time when I know what I’m ready to pay for them. Instead the both of us bought a pair of Hunter rubber boots with matching socks. I decided to take the medium high boot in shining black with pink socks. Together it cost 220RMB after long discussions with the shopkeeper. The rubber boots can be worn with or without the sock, and I even found in the West Nanjing Road market more different colored and styled socks, so I will be buying more of the socks later on.

I already knew when I came to Shanghai that I wanted a Canadan Goose –jacket. In the S&T market they have lots of shops selling the brand, so I tried on different styles and colors. When I finally found a perfect one in navy blue the seller told me that he couldn’t match the price I was offering since the jacket I wanted was better quality than the other Canadan Gooses that they had in the store. This seemed legit and he was even so honest, that when I said I could pay 300RMB for another jacket he said that no, he’ll sell it for 250RMB. I didn’t buy the cheaper one, but instead we continued looking for more jacket store. I found one store that could sell the jacket for 400RMB, since the other seller did only go down to 550RMB, but they didn’t have the right color in the shop. The seller went to pick up the blue jacket from their “warehouse” and after waiting a while I got the wrong size so she had to go back to get it in another size. In the end I got the right jacket and now I’ll just have to wait for it to start raining and getting colder so I can use my new clothes and shoes. 

Nike kengät ja kuntosalijäsenyys hankittu

Sain viimein ostettua Nike juoksukengät salille ja päivittäiseen käyttöön. Olin katsonut kenkiä pari kertaa enne kun päätin ne ostaa. Hinta oli huikeat 170e, mutta en ole aikaisemmin omistanut niin mukavia lenkkareita. Värikin oli vaikea valita, sillä alun perin olisin halunnut lime-vihreät, mutta ne eivät olisi sopineet päivittäiseen käyttöön. Ostin lopulta musta-harmaat, sillä ne eivät herätä huomiota.

Jo seuraavana päivänä pääsin käyttämään kenkiäni hankkiessani jäsenyyden koulun lähellä olevasta kuntosalista. Luulin saavani jäsenyyden halvemmalla mennessäni yhdessä tanskalaisten kanssa. Mutta nähtävästi heidän tinkimistaidoista ei ollut hyötyä sillä jouduin maksamaan neljästä kuusta saman kun mitä saksalainen oli maksanut viidestä kuusta. Kuukausi hinnaksi tuli 30e, mikä ei ole mielestäni paljon verratessa Suomen kuntosalijäsenyyshintoihin.

Salilla olisin kaivannut enemmän laiteitta, mutta kyllä sieltä kaikki perusliikkeet pystyy tekemään. Vielä kun löytäisi hyvän kuntorutiinin käsipainoilla, niin ei sali hullumpi ole. Voin myös osallistua erilaisiin yoga-tunteihin päivittäin tai käydä uimassa kuntosalin uima-altaassa, eli eipä siellä ainakaan tylsisty. Maksamalla vähän ekstraa voi myös pelata sulkapalloa sisäkentillä.

I finally bought a pair of Nike running shoes from the flagship store at Nanjing Road. The Nike Flyknit Lunar 1+ cost a lot, but they are really comfortable on the foot. I went looking at them in different shops but didn't buy them since I wanted them in lime green. The color wasn't available so I took the ones in black and grey, since they can be worn with everything.  

I wore the shoes already on the next day when going to the nearby gym. I thought that I would get a group discount when going to the gym together with the Danish students. I ended up paying more then the German girl had paid, since I paid the same amount for four months as she had paid for five. I didn't want a year long membership since I will try to find a tae kwon do place when all the other exchange students will leave shanghai. 

At the gym you can find all basic equipment (will post a picture of the gym later on), but I would have wanted some more equipment. I just have to come up with a routine using only hand weights and I will be fine. A can also go to different yoga classes everyday or go swimming. Also if you pay a bit extra you can use the indoor badminton courses.
