Lokakuun alku oli niin sateinen, että oli pakko mennä ostamaan kumisaappaat. Sadetta tuli taivaalta ainakin kolme päivää putkeen, mutta onneksi ulkona oli lämmintä, joten sateenkestävällä takilla, shortseilla ja muovisandaaleilla lähdin ulos. Lokakuu on myös ollut todella tuulinen. Ihan syksyltä täällä on tuntunut kun lehdet lentelevät. Mutta ei se syksyfiilis kauan kestä, sillä campuksella on niin paljon puutarhureita, jotka käy lehdet keräämässä pois. Lämpötila on myös vaihdellut kovaan tahtiin. Aamulla kun herää pitää avata ikkuna, jota tiedän onko ulkona kylmä vai lämmin. Joskus ulkona on aamulla +13 ja joskus taas +23. On se vähän haastavaa ennakoida mitä pistää päälle, kun ei lämpötilasta voi etukäteen tietää mitään. Olen tämän kuun aikana käyttänyt sekä toppeja ja shortseja että takkeja ja pitkiä housuja. Kaikki täällä on kertonut, että kesä oli ennätyspitkä tänä vuonna ja että syksy tulee olemaan lyhyt. Täällä siis odotellaan jo talvea. Minä toisaalla olen ollut parin päivän aikana ulkona ottamassa aurinkoa, sillä lämpötila on ollut samalla tasolla kun Suomessa kesällä. Ja kyllähän sekin helpottaa, etteivät kiinalaiset halua olla auringossa, joten minulla on aina paljon valinnan varaa minne menen istumaan mennessäni ulos.

October has been really autumy for me. In the beginning of the month it only rained for days. In the end I had to go and buy rubber-boots, but of course it hasn’t rained after I got the boots. This month has also been windy. Leaves are on the streets everywhere until the garden keepers and cleaners come and pick them up. Also the temperature has fluctuated a lot. Some days it can be +13 outside and following day it’s +23. Before I go out I always have to open my window to feel how warm it is outside before I know what to put on.  In other words I have been wearing this month tops and shorts one day and the next day I have had a jacket and pants on. The summer has been record long here in Shanghai, so everybody says that the autumn period will be short this year and that the winter is coming soon. There is no winter in sight for me since I have been working on my tan now for a couple of days, since the temperature is the same now as it is in Finland during summer.
