Decoration bargains

Got this one for only some 40rmb
After the voucher and sales the stool cost just 115rmb

Olen monen suomalaisen blogista nähnyt, että he käyvät DTL nimisessä liikkeessä ostamassa huonekaluja.

I have noticed from some of the Finns blogs that I follow that they like going furniture shopping to a place called DTL. The shop, or more like a warehouse, is located in Pudong in a weird place. There is no metro nearby, it isn’t even in a place where western people normally go. That is probably the reason I never went there in the start. Fortunately, CC went to look for a job nearby, so I headed there with him. The only customers in the shop were western. How they get there I don’t know, as getting a taxi might be hard. The warehouse is enormous with lots of nice Chinese style furniture. Most of them have been made more modern with some details or colors. The prices, of course, are high, but that’s how it generally is if you don’t want to buy Ikea here. I had remembered seeing an advert where the shop would give 200rmb vouchers for anyone who posted the shops adverts to their friends in Wechat. I saw a stool that I had wanted to buy. Now with the 200 rmb discount it cost only 150rmb. They also had a New Year’s Sale, so in the end the stool only cost 115rmb! In addition, we found a nice pot and since Cc and I have different friends, he was also able to get the discount, and the pot cost only some 40rmb! Never been so happy about getting this much discounts for decoration items and furniture. Most of the furniture cost around 3000rmb, and most people use the discounts for those products. Therefore, I might be one of the only ones actually getting this kind of great benefit from the Wechat voucher.

Ikean sänky

Picking up all the material in IKEA
The bed consisted of three packages
Lots of people on the weekend
The longest queue I have ever seen in the IKEA restaurant

Like living on a construction site

Ikean miehet toivat paljon painavat laatikot viidenteen kerrokseen kantamalla paketit selällään.

Our century old bed finally gave up and broke. I had been trying to convince the family to buy a new bed from the beginning but now I finally had a reason to really get a new one. The same day we headed over to the nearest Ikea. The place was packed with people, but we still ate some lunch before going to the showroom to look at beds. From the showroom we chose two beds that we liked. Both had four storages under the bed, but we chose the higher one that also had a back board/book storage space. We didn’t find the bed from the warehouse section at first, but in the end we had all the right packages. Even though we came to Ikea by car, there was no chance of us taking home with us a two meter long package.

We left the large packages at the home delivery desk and paid 90rmb for them to deliver to our home. We were told the delivery was being made the next day between one and five. Even though we waited at home for most of the day, no delivery showed up. At five we gave Ikea a call and at about seven they finally turned up. The delivery men took the heavy packages all the way up to the fifth floor by carrying the packages on their backs.

I started by putting the easiest furniture together, namely a table we also bought. After this I made the headboard that we had some problems with. Some of the boards didn’t match correctly, but after a while I didn’t care anymore. The last one was the bed and by hand it took some three hours to put it together. The next morning I made the storage boxes and after that I had got everything finished. The new bed is a bit longer than the previous one and going past it is a bit hard. But no worries, since now we can reorganize the rest of the room as well.

Kiinalainen huonekaluliike

In addition to Ikea, I have visited one furniture store in Shanghai. It was a really weird place with lots of small shops displaying their products in showrooms. The styles were either weird modern or really old style that I can’t imagine anybody buying. But then again this is what Chinese people with money probably go for.
