We had a great view to Lujiazui and the Oriental Pearl Tower, from our table by the window

We also had some snacks with our cocktails

The menu had been changed, as I had checked a different variant of it at the internet

Liettualainen ystävä ilmoitti palaavansa Tanskaan, joten hän halusi tavat minut ja poikaystäväni viimeisen kerran ennen lähtöään. Hänellä ei ollut mitään suunnitelmia, että missä tavattaisiin, joten päätin hänen puolestaan, että menemme Glamour Baariin, joka sijaitsee keskustan paraatipaikalla Bundilla. Paikka on mainittu joka ikisessä matkaoppaassa, joten sinne meneminen oli minun to-do-listalla jo ennen kuin saavuin Shanghaihin. Muutenkaan ei olisi ollut sopivampaa aikaa mennä sinne, kuin viimeisille hyvästi-drinkeille. Tapaaminen jäi sitten hänen viimeiselle illalle, joten maanantai-iltapäivänä lähdimme bussilla ja metrolla Nanjing Roadille. Kävelykatu oli täynnä ihmisiä ja pääsimme kuin pääsimmekään Bundille asti, autotietä pitkin kävellen, kun jalkatie oli niin täynnä. Bundille saapuessamme ehdimme vielä käydä katsomassa rantakävelyltä vähän nähtävyyksiä, eli Lujiazuin pilvenpiirtäjiä, joista kuvia sitten toisessa blogi postissa. Kahdeksalta menimme Glamour baariin, jonne en ensiksi ollut löytää sisään. Tullessamme hissistä ulos viidenteen kerrokseen, aloin jo pelkätä, että mitä jos he kysyvät onko meillä varausta, kun nyt ei ollut sellaista tehty. Tätä he eivät kumminkaan kysyneet, vaan kaikki tarjoilijat iloisen kohteliaasti tervehtivät meitä sujuvalla englannin kielellä.

Saimme todella hyvän istumapaikan pöydänäärestä, joka sijaitsi isojen ikkunoiden ääressä. Ikkunasta oli hienot näkymät joen toiselle puolelle. Baari ei ollut kovin täynnä alku-illasta, mutta se alkoi täyttyä businessmiehistä ja muista keski-ikäisistä länsimaalaisista illan aikana. Olin netistä baarin valikoimaa selaillut ja saanut selville, että halvemmalla saa kun tilaa kahden juoman lisäksi kaksi pientä snacksia. Joten tämän teimme, ja otimme päärynä cocktailin ja Baileys-Kahlua sekoituksen lisäksi kaksi riisi-palleroa juuston kera. Tilasin myös todella hyvän suklaa-mouse jälkiruoan, jonkan poikaystäväni ehti syödä alle sekunnissa, kun annoin hänelle maistiaiseksi. Baarissa soi hienostunut musiikki, vaikkakin paikoittain niin kovalla, ettei välillä kuullut mitä toinen sanoo. Ystäväni saavuttua, puhuimme noin tunnin, ennen kuin oli aika lähteä kotiin päin. En ollut aikaisemmin hänen kanssaan ollut ulkona kahdestaan, joten oli mukava viettää iltaa todella hienoissa kupeissa viimeisen kerran.

As my Lithuanian friend informed me she would be leaving Shanghai, I realized it was the perfect timing to have a good-bye drink at one of the bars I had long wanted to go to. Glamour bar has been featured in almost all guide books and magazines I ever read about Shanghai, so even before I came here I had it one my to-do-list. We decided to meet at the last night she was in Shanghai, so at eve of Monday I headed together with my boyfriend to Nanjing Road. I had never seen the pedestrian street so full, but we managed to make it to the Bund. We had time to go to the boardwalk together with millions of Chinese to see the lights of Lujiazui skyscrapers. The evening was warm and not too cloudy, so the view was great, but I will add the pictures into another blog post. We went to the bar at eight o’clock as we had setup for our time to meet, but she hadn’t arrived yet, so we were seated in one of the nicer tables to wait for her. During our wait we ordered from the extended cocktail list a pear cocktail and a Baileys-Kahlua mix. The cocktail prices ranged from 88 to maybe 200rmb. As I had looked up from the internet the bar beforehand, I knew we would get two cocktails and two snacks for 188rmb, so we went for that deal.

After about twenty minutes my friend arrived and we had a nice chat for an hour. We couldn’t stay too long as we still had to make it to the last subway making an interchange at one of the stations. Sadly we didn’t make it in time, and we went out to look for a bus that would take us home. There were no busses, so we had to take a taxi to a bus station from which we could continue our journey home. Even though the night didn’t end too well, I’m still glad we went to Glamour Bar, as it is a place to go to even once. The Bund has also lots of fancier restaurants, but as those doesn’t fit my budget, going to one of the bars and have a cocktail fits me better.
