Market entrance
Hancity on West Nanjing Road:lla sijaitsevat markkinat. Liikkeet ovat samantapaisia
kun Science & Technology Museum markkinoilla, mutta täällä liikkeet ovat
mielestäni pienemmät. Liikkeitä löytyy kolmesta kerroksesta ja tarjolla on
laukkujen, huivien ja elektroniikan lisäksi enemmän korkokenkiä ja mekkoja. Käyn west nanjingin markkinoilla, sillä sieltä
olen löytänyt liikkeitä, jotka myyvät tuotteita, joita ei muualta saa.
Olen jo kahdesti käynyt
liikkeessä, joka myy Thomas Sabon koruja ja riipuksia. Laatuhan ei ole
lähelläkään sama, mutta mieluimmin maksan pari euroa, enkä paria sataa euroa
yhdestä korusta. Käydessäni toisen kerran liikkeessä, heille oli jo tullut
uusimmat mallitkin. Hauskaa oli myös kun kauppias sanoi, että olen varmasti
ruotsalainen, vaikken ollut puhunut hänelle mitään.
Näiden markkinoiden korukaupoissa
ei nähtävästi voi edes tinkiä, vaan kauppias kertoo yhden hinnan ja pysyttelee
siinä. Tämä on todella outoa verrattuna esim. laukkuliikkeisiin, jossa väitellään
hinnasta joskus jopa kymmenen minuuttia ennen kun hinta saadaan sovittua. Itse
en käytä tätä taktiikkaa. Kysyn hinnan, sanon omani ja pysyttelen usein
ensimmäisessä hinnassa tai sitten nostan joitakin euroja ja sanon, että tämä on
viimeinen hintani. Usein tämä ei heille passaa, joten lähden liikkeestä ja
hetken kuluttua kauppias huutaa perään, että ”kaupat tuli”. Melkeinpä joka
kaupassa tämä on toiminut, mutta joskus he eivät laske minun hintaani asti,
vaan pitävät pari – neljä euroa korkeampana, mutta pitää vain kokeilla
seuraavassa liikkeessä eikä maksaa
enemmän kun mitä on aluksi päättänyt.
Toinen kikka, jota käytin
nyt mennessäni yksin markkinoille on kuulokkeiden pitäminen korvissa. Nyt minun
ei tarvitse sanoa kaikille ettei minua kiinnosta heidän rolexit tai vuittonit. Vaan
kävelen pokkana ohi ja kauppiaat luulevat etten kuulut heitä. Muutenkin on
hauskempaa kuunnella musiikkia kun kauppiaiden myyntiyrityksiä ja koska en
muutenkaan koskaan huomaa jos joku yrittää tulla juttelemaan minulle kadulla,
vielä vähemmän huomaan musiikkia kuunnellessa.

Hancity is a big market on West Nanjing
Road. It’s a large commercial building with shops on at least three floors. Most
of the stores have the same products that can be found at the Science and Technology
Museum metro station such as bags, shoes, electronics, scarfs and sweater-& jacket shops. I like the bag shops more in S&T market, but Hancity has
better jewelry and dress shops. Also the shoes are fancier here and you can
get more Superdry stuff in this market.
I have been to the market already twice
since I like one of their stores in particular. It’s a jewelry shop selling
Thomas Sabo charms and pendants. Since I like the brand a lot I know what they
should look like and the price in the shop is fixed so you don’t even need to
haggle. I even like the shop owner, since he asked me if I was Swedish even though
I hadn’t said anything. He even helped me find different charms that I was
looking for and he started telling me about his friend who had worked at
Nokia.
From the market I also bought a couple of
dresses, even though I couldn’t try them on. I’m pretty sure I paid overprice
for the dresses, but after going to H&M and seeing a simple dress for the
same price as the two dresses combined, I still feel like I would have spent that amount
somewhere on dresses. To my big surprise both the dresses fit perfectly, so at least
I know where to go and buy dresses in the future when I’m ready to haggle more.
I haven’t been to the markets alone before
so this time I was listening to music the whole time. This meant that I didn’t
hear or react to the sellers trying to get me into their shop. When listening
to music I don’t need to tell all the sellers that I’m not interested, instead
I can just walk past without being rude.
