Keskiviikkona Shanghaissa on Ladys Night melkein jokaisessa baarissa, joten päätimme kahden vaihto-oppilaan kanssa lähteä kaupungille. Saksalainen ja liettualainen ovat olleet useasti M1NT klubilla, joten menimme ensiksi sinne aloittelemaan. Matka sinne alkoi jännästi, kun keskelle motaria kääntyi auto eteemme, joten takana ajava osui meihin kuskin hidastaessa. Isku ei ollut kova ja kuljettajat vain ajoivat hitaasti vierekkäin tuijottaen vihaisesti toisiaan sanomatta mitään ja aiheuttaen ruuhkaan perään. Selvisimme siitä ja pääsimme clubille. M1NTiin yritimme päästä sisään tanskalaisten kanssa ihan ensimmäistä kertaa kun olin heidän kanssa ulkona, mutta sisäänpääsy oli helpompi kuin tytöillä oli promoteri klubilla.
M1NT on kuulemma Shanghain
paras klubi, mutta itse asiassa se ei ole kauhean ihmeellinen. Näkymät ovat
hyvät 24. kerroksesta kolmeen eri suuntaan ja hai akvaario kattaa yhden
kokonaisen seinän, mutta muuten tanssilattia on melko pieni ja paikan päällä on
vain yksi baaritiski. Liettualainen sai drinkkirannekkeen, ja koska hän sai sen
rikkomatta irrotettua pystyin lainaamaan sitä käydessä hakemaan ilmaisia
drinkkejä baarista. Tyttöjen normaali promoteri ei ollut paikalla, joten toinen
promoteri antoi meille pöydän, jossa istui brasilialainen, venäläinen ja pari
afrikkalaista. Pöytään tuotiin normaali setti vodkaa ja appelsiini-mehua, mutta
minä kävin mieluimmin baarista hakemassa muita perusjuomia.
Klubi oli melko tyhjä
tulessamme, ja paikalla oli vain vanhoja länsimaalaisia tai kiinalasia
työ-porukoita. Illan aikana paikka täyttyi ja musiikki oli melko hyvää. Nyt oli
myös helpompi jutella ihmisten kanssa kun ei hengaile seitsemän hengen tanskalaisryhmän
kanssa baarissa. Juttelin mm. kiinalaisen, saksalaisen ja kahden astraalialisen
kanssa. Jopa kiinalainen työporukka tarjosi minulle ja saksalaiselle lasilliset
samppanjaa. Kahden aikaan ajattelimme mennä Hollywoodiin, sillä M1NT oli niin
täynnä. Vasta perillä tuli mieleen ettei kukaan ole ulkona juhlimassa
keskiviikkoisin ja Hollywood oli aivan tyhjä. Lähdimme viiden minuutin jälkeen
ja sain odotella taxissa pysähtyessämme rikos-paikka mäkin eteen hakemaan
ruokaa kotimatkalle.

There are Lady’s Nights in almost all bars
and clubs in Shanghai on Wednesdays. Together with two exchange students we
decided to go to the city and start by going to M1NT. The German and Lithuanian
girls had been there many times, but I only once tried with the Danes, but we
couldn’t get in, since we didn’t have promoter there. The ride to the city didn’t
go too well as a car pulled in front of us and as our driver had to slow down
the car behind hit us. It wasn’t too bad, so the drivers drove besides each
other’s for a while staring at each other angrily without saying anything.
Usually polices are called if there is a collision, but this was probably
normal for them.
We made it to M1NT, which is said to be the
best club in Shanghai. I didn’t think much of it since the only cool thing was
the view from the 24th floor over the city and the shark thank that
covered one wall. The place was otherwise not that big, there was no real dance
floor and there was only one bar. The Lithuanian girl got a free-drink bracelet
that I could borrow to go and get drinks for myself. The girls’ promoter wasn’t
at the club, so his college gave us a table to sit at with a Brazilian, Russian
and some African people. Vodka and orange juice was brought to the table, but I
went rather to the bar and got some other softdrink-mixes.
The place was at first really empty, with
only old western people and Chinese groups relaxing after work. During the
night the place got full and the music changed from lounge to dance, which was
nice. It was also fun to go to the bar in a smaller group since it was easier
to talk to people, when I’m not hanging around with seven Danes. I talked a bit
with a Chinese girl and her work mates offered me and the German some champagne.
Around two o’clock we decided to go to Hollywood, since M1NT was too full. We
didn’t realize that nobody goes out partying on a Wednesday, so Hollywood was
almost completely empty. We stayed for a couple of minutes and then we left.
