Illallinen kiinalaisravintolassa

Tässä vähän kuvia eilisen illallisesta Hefeissä. Menimme CCn ja viiden muun henkilön kanssa syömään todella suosittuun paikkaan. Paikka oli siis aivan täynnä, ja mekin jonotimme noin 20 minuuttia. Ruoka oli suhteellisen outoa perus kiinalaista ruokaa.

                                                                                                                                                             

Here are some pictures from our dinner last night in Hefei. Together with five other people, we went to a really popular restaurant. It was so full that we had to go to a waiting room to queue for a table. The food was quite weird basic Chinese dishes. 

Shanghai - Hefei

Kiinassa vietetään pyhiä ja minä lähden lomalle. En lähde sentään mihinkään pitkälle, vaan ajamme viereiseen provinssiin, jossa mm. CCn kotikaupunki Anqing sijaitsee. Sunnuntaiaamuna lähdimme ajamaan kohti Hefein kaupunkia, jonne matka kuulemma on viisi tuntia, mutta lopputuloksena oli 7 tuntia. Siihen kyllä sisältyi meidän viisi taukoa, jolloin kävimme vessassa tai söimme autossa olleita snackeja. Olemme Anhuin provinssissa viikon ja sitten palaamme takaisin Shanghaihin ja minulla jatkuu taas työt.

                                                                                                                                                                  

China will celebrate and I will go on a holiday. Not too far away, just to the neighbor province of Anhui. We will drive there and our first stop is the city of Hefei. I have been told the drive takes five hours but in reality it took us some 7 hours. This included our five toilet and snack brakes. We will stay in Anhui for about a week and after that we will return to Shanghai and I have to go back to work. 

Ruokaostoksilla Marks & Spencerissä

Marks & Spencerillä on iso like Shanghain keskustassa. Kolmesta ensimmäisestä kerroksesta löytyy vaatteita, mutta ylimmässä kerroksessa on kahvila ja ruokaosaosto. Ruoat ovat britti herkkuja, ja sieltä löytyy myös paljon tuotteita, joista itsekin pidän. En ole aikaisemmin sieltä mitään ostanut, sillä pidän hintatasoa korkeana. En kummiskaan löydä kaikkia tuotteita normi kaupoista, joten nyt tuli kassillinen tuotteita ostettua. Ainakin sain hyvät treenit pidettyä, kun kassi piti kantaa keskustasta kotiin asti. Olen pitkään metsästänyt Chai teetä, ja nyt kun kerrankin sen löysin, se olikin alessa! Olin jo, että loistavaa, kunnes huomasin, että alkuperäinen hinta oli ale hintaa korkeampi! Jahas.. Alkuperäinen hinta oli noin 70 senttiä halvempi, ja uudesta hinnasta otettiin 15% pois, mikäli ostaisin enemmän kun yhden valikoidun tuotteen. No mukaan tuli myös kamomilla tee. Ostim myös Tikka Masala kastiketta, purkin porkkanoita ja aamupala mysliä. Kolme pakettia keksiä, kroissantteja ja pullo kirsikka vettä tulee matkalle mukaan. Olin jo ostamassa poistohyllyssä olevan kirsikkamehu tetran, mutta onneksi sain maistaa juomaa, ja se oli jo niin pilaantuneen makuista, etten sitä ostanutkaan halvasta hinnasta huolimatta. Poistohyllyllä oli melko ryysis kun kaikki kiinalaiset olivat ihmettelemässä britti tuotteita. Marks & Spencerillä on aika kattava ruokaosasto, sillä sieltä löytyy melkein kaikki, mitä tarvitsee, vaikka osasto ei ole mikään suuri. Loppuun vielä voisin lisätä, että tämä satsi maksoi noin 40 euroa, jotta saatte jonkinlaisen kuvan ulkomaalaisten elintarvikkeiden hintatasosta. 

                                                                                                                                                                 

Marks & Spencer has a big shop on west Nanjing road. I usually do not buy food from there as it is rather expensive but this time I found some products I haven’t seen elsewhere, so I had to buy them! I bought two packs of tea, as they were said to be on sale, but this was just a marketing trick. One of the price tags had fallen out, so I saw that the original price of the Chai tea was 35rmb, but during the sales it was but to 39rmb! Ridiculous... During the sale you could get 15% discount if you bought more than one of the selected products, meaning you will pay almost more for your tea now than before the sale.. I also wanted a pack of chamomile tea as it should be good before bed? In addition I got some Tikka Masala, as I like Indian food, some granola for breakfast and some baby carrots. I also bought lots of cookies and a cherry sparkling water for the trip that is ahead of us. The food area is quite small but it has all the essentials, including frozen food, canned food, fresh bread and even a wine department. The place was full of Chinese looking through the clearance part. I was going to buy cherry juice that was best before August, but luckily I was able to taste it in the shop and it was so horrible that I took the more expensive sparking water instead.

Pizza Express

Viime viikonloppuna kävin Pizza Express ravintolassa ensimmäistä kertaa, ja paikka oli aivan huippu. Hyvää pizzaa ja kiva ravintola kokonaisuudessaan. Vaikka sisustus ei ollut niin upea kun esim. Pressissä, niin pizza oli kyllä paljon parempaa. Otimme yhden hunaja-kana ja feta pizzan ja yhden basilika pesto pizzan.

                                                                                                                                                              

Last weekend we went to Pizza Express in the new Jinke Lu mall. The restaurant and its food were awesome. Even though the décor wasn’t as nice as in the Press, the pizzas were much better. We had one honey chicken with feta and one pesto basilica. 

Mekko kaaos

Kuten monena viikonloppuna on tullut kirjoitettua, päätin teettää mekon räätälimarkkinoilla. Ensimmäistä kertaa asiat eivät menneet niin kuin oli sovittu. Olin löytänyt netistä kivan kuvan ja näytin sen yhdelle räätälimarkkinoiden myyjälle. Hän sanoi, että ei ihan samaa voi saada, mutta samantapaisen kyllä. Yläosa piti tehdä pitsistä, ja kuulemma Suzhou kaupungissa saisi ostettua hienoa pitsiä. Myyjä sanoi, että hänen kaverinsa voi sieltä käydä ostamassa ja hän lähettää minulle kuvia eri vaihtoehdoista. Maksoin 60 euroa etukäteen, ja loput, noin. 40 euroa, maksetaan kun mekko on valmis.

Kuvista ei kuulunut mitään, vaikka kyselin niiden perään. Viikko tilauksen jälkeen kävimme markkinoilla uudestaan hakeaksemme CCn puvun, ja ajattelimme, että minullakin olisi mekko valmiina ensimmäistä kokeilua varten. Eipä ollutkaan mekkoa kokeiltavana, vaikka myyjä oli sanonut, että mekkon alaosa valmistuisi nopeasti.

No seuraavalla kerralla kuulemma mekon alaosa olisi valmis. Kävimme seuraavalla reissulla myös toisella räätälimarkkinoilla noutamassa CCn siskon ja hänen poikaystävänsä hääasut. Saapuessamme kokeilemaan mekkoa, nainen ei ollutkaan paikalla, vaikka kello olikin jo lähemmäs 10. Soittelimme hänen perään ja hän kuulemaa avaa shopin vasta yhdeltätoista. No onneksi hän kiiruhti paikalle, ja sain kokeilla alaosan. Hame ei sinänsä ollut mikään erikoinen, ja hameen alaosasta puuttui tilaamani pitsi osat. No kuulemma sen hän pystyi lisäämään seuraavalle kerralle. Mekon tärkein osa, eli pitsitoppista ei vieläkään kuulunut mitään. Vasta sen jälkeen kun sanoimme, että tehkää työnne vähän nopeammin, aloin saamaan kuvia eri pitsivaihtoehdoista. Mikään kuvista ei ollut läheskään samanlainen kun mitä olin halunnut alun perin.

No jälleen kerran räätälimarkkinoille katsomaan mitä he olivat saaneet aikaisekseen. Nyt toppi oli tehty, mutta se ei ollut lähelläkään sitä mitä olin tilannut. Se ei ollut pitsistä tehty, vaan jostain halvasta, läpikuultavasta kankaasta. Pitsiä oli ainoastaan lisätty helmaan. Lisäksi olin halunnut paljon helmikirjailua, mutta sitä he eivät olleet tehneet ollenkaan. Kaiken lisäksi toppi oli liian pieni, eli en olisi sitä voinut käyttää. Meillä oli vain noin pari viikkoa jäljellä ennen kun tarvitsisin mekon, ja sen tekemiseen oli jo tarvittu kuukausi, joten emme enää jaksaneet odottaa kaikkia korjauksia. Vaadimme rahamme takaisin, ja ihme kyllä saimme ne takaisin. Nainen yritti totta kai sanoa, että heillä on ollut kuluja tehdessään mekkoa, ja että voisin saada hameosan halvemmalla. Sanoin etten hameella tee mitään ilman toppia, joten onneksi en sitä hetken väittelyn jälkeen tarvinnut ostaa. Usein räätälit eivät anna takasin maksua, mutta luulen, että kiinaksi väittely toimii paremmin. Lisäksi väittely shopin edessä häätää kaikki asiakkaat pois ja antaa paikalle huonon maineen, joten luulen, että hän halusi maksamalla päästä meistä nopeasti eroon.

                                                                                                                                                           

As I have written in many of my weekend posts during the previous month, I had ordered a dress to be tailor made. I found a picture on the internet and showed it to one tailor shop that told me that they could do it. The dress is two pieces and the top is made out of lace and pearls or other applications. The woman told me the lace part could be bought in the city of Suzhou, since Shanghai apparently didn’t this type of lace. I was supposed to get some pictures of different lace later in the week. I paid 400rmb upfront.

I didn’t receive the lace pictures even after I asked for them. During the next weekend we picked up CCs suit from the market and at the same time we visited my dress tailor. They hadn’t even made the skirt part, which was said to be the simple one. So we had to come back the following weekend again. This time she wasn’t at the market when we came before ten and after calling her she showed up some 20 minutes later with the first part of the dress.  I tried it on and some alterations needed to be done, but the top was still not done.

After we let them know that they need to start working faster, we got some pictures of lace that didn’t match the picture at all. The fourth weekend in a row we showed up in the tailor market and the top was done, but it didn’t look like it was supposed to. The fabric was not lace and there were no pearl applications. The top was also too small and we didn’t have more time to wait for them to fix all their problems, so we demanded my money back. Good that CC could argue with her in Chinese, because tailor shops don’t usually give the money back as they already have some expenses. She tried to offer the skirt part for a lower price, but I didn’t have any use for it without the top. Luckily I got my money back, but we wasted so much time on making this dress. 

Sairausvapaalla

Eilen illalla, tultuani kotiin töistä, vatsani alkoi särkemään. Luulin kivun menevän ohi parissa tunnissa, mutta nukkumaan mennessäni, kipu oli vielä kova. Yöllä kipu oli sen verran kova, etten paljon saanut nukuttua. Aamulla soitin pomolle ja sanoin meneväni lääkärille. Vastauksena oli, että ei ole kiirettä tulla takaisin töihin, eli toisin sanonen hän ei pitänyt sairautta kovin pahana esteenä, eli kyllä töihin vielä voi tulla. Jajaa. Ajanvarus sairaalaani aukesi 8:30, mutta minun ei tarvinnut jonottaa, vaan puhelu yhdistyy nopeasti. Selitin tilanteen ja sain ajan jo 9:40. Tunti siis oli aikaa ajaa sairaalaan, ja ehdimme juuri ja juuri. 

Respa tädille ilmoittauduin ja menin aulaan istumaan. Minuutin kuluttua sairaanhoitaja tuli minut noutamassa ja menimme huoneeseen tarkastamaan perus asioita ja keskustelemaan vaivoistani. Vasta tämän jälkeen minut vietiin toiseen huoneeseen odottamaan lääkäriä. Minulla on aikaisemmin ollut Kiinalaisia lääkäreitä, mutta täällä kertaa minulla oli länsimaalainen naine. Hänen tyylinsä oli paljon suorempi, ei niin lämmin ja ystävällinen kuin edelliset lääkärit, mutta hän teki hyvän työn. Keskustelun ja ongelmakohdan tutkinnan jälkeen lääkäri päätyi siihen tulokseen, että syy kipuun voi johtua kolmesta eri syystä; virus saatu puutteellisesta käsihygieniasta ruokailun suhteen, bakteeria kroonisesta sairaudesta tai stressi. No eipä selvinnyt näin lyhyen tutkimuksen jälkeen mikä oikea syy oli, ja voihan kipu johtua kaikista syistä.

Sain lääkärin todistuksen töihin vietäväksi ja kaksi lääkettä. Maksoin käynnin ja olin unohtaa pankkikortin kassalle, mutta onneksi hän toi sen minulle. Pienestä apteekista noudin lääkkeet ja samalla apteekkari selittää käyttötavan. Ajoimme työpaikalleni, joka oli lähistöllä, sillä ajattelin, että parempi jättää sairaus loma lappusen nyt heti, etteivät he ajattele minun tulevan vielä töihin samana päivänä. HR mies ei kuitenkaan halunnut lappusta, vaan pyysi minun odottavan pomoa. Hän istui kokouksessa, ja odotettuani noin 15 minuuttia, jätin lapun työkaverille ja suuntasin kotiin. Minulla on kaksi päivää sairauslomaa, mutta mikäli kipu pahenee, joudun menemään takaisin sairaalaan. 

                                                                                                                                                                  

In the evening when I got home from work, my stomach started hurting really badly. I thought the feeling would go over in a couple of hours, but when I went to bed it was still hurting. In the night the pain was even worse, so when I got up I called to work and told them that I would go to the hospital in the morning. My hospitals call service opens up 8:30 so I had to wait for a while. Fortunately they always answer on the first try, and I got an appointment with a doctor just one hour later. We made it there just in time, even though it is near my workplace, and getting there takes only about half an hour.

Like earlier I had to just let the registration person know I had arrived, and then I could take a seat. Just a minute later a nurse came and got me and we went to a room to check up on my health. She asked basic questions and made some simple checks. After this I moved to another room to wait for the doctor. I have in the past had Chinese doctors, but this time I had a Western woman. She was quite strict in her way, not as soft and nice as the previous doctors, but still good at her work. She asked some questions and checked the problem area. She told me three possible reasons for the stomach pain; problem with hygiene when eating causing a virus, some bacteria caused by a chronic sickness or stress. Or maybe for me it was all of them? We are not sure what it caused since there was no need to make a more intense research, since the pain was not as severe as in the night.

The doctor wrote me a sick leave note and I got two sorts of medication. After paying and getting the medication from their small pharmacist, we headed over to my work, to hand in the note. The HR guy asked me to wait for the boss and hand it in directly to him. But as the boss was sitting in a meeting, and I had already waited for a while, I handed over the note to a co-worker and asked her to give it to him. Now I will have sick leave for two days, and go to work on Friday, if the pain hasn’t got worse. 

Tennis -koira

Viikko sitten kävimme töitteni jälkeen pelaamassa tennistä vanhan kouluni tenniskentällä. Kouluni on siis noin viidentoista minuutin ajomatkan päässä työpaikaltani. Lopetin työt aikaisin, joten meidän ei tarvinneet ruuhkassa ajaa. Onneksi oli puolipilvinen päivä, eli ei liian kuuma. Pelasimme noin tunnin, ja koiramme, joka oli juuri käynyt parturissa, istui kiltisti seuraamassa. Aina välillä piti koira opastaa takaisin paikalleen, mikäli se oli vaeltamassa keskelle tenniskenttää. Suurimaksi osaa se kyllä hyvin istui paikallaan. Peli sujui yllättävän hyvin, joten toivottavasti jatkossa olisi hyvät säät niin voisimme uudestaan mennä pelaamaan. Saksalaisten compoundissa on tenniskenttä, joten sinnekin voisi maksua vastaan mennä pelaamaan.

                                                                                                                                                               

A week ago, me and CC, went to my old university tennis court and played for a while. The university is just some fifteen minutes’ drive from my work and since I ended work early we did not need to drive in the heavy traffic. The weather was quite nice, not too hot, so the tennis went quite well. Our dog that just hag got its fur cut, was sitting nicely on the edge of the court. Sometimes I had to guide it back to its seat, if it started wandering into the middle of the court. 

Kaupunkiajelua

Viikonloppuna kävimme kaupunkiajelulla. Aloitimme päivän käymällä S & T markkinoilla palauttamassa laukun. Museo markkinoiden vieressä oli aivan täynnä, joten onneksi emme sinne olleet matkalla. Täältä jatkoimme joen toiselle puolelle räätäli-markkinoille. Menimme hakemaan mekkoani, mutta siitä ei tullut mitään, joten palasimme tyhjin käsin. Siitä sitten myöhemmin lisään. Ajoimme lähistön Cool Dockseille syömään thaimaalaista. Sama paikka kun viime kerrallakin, todella herkullista siis. Otimme pidemmän reitin takaisin kotiin, eli Bundin kautta Hongkouhun ja sitten takaisin Pudongiin.

                                                                                                                                                              

On the weekend we drove to the Science and Technology market to return a bag. The museum next to the market was packed with people, so good that we didn’t need to go there. After this we drove to the other side of the river and went to the tailor market to pick up my dress. The dress was a disaster and another story I will tell later. We drove to the Cool Docks to have dinner in the same Thai place as last time. Delicious food, including my new favorite pineapple rice! After this we took the longer way home, meaning we drove through the Bund and through Hongkou back to Pudong. 

Kuntosalijäsenyys uusittu

En ole käynyt kuntosalilla noin kahteen kuukauteen ja syy siihen on ollut, että jäsenyyteni loppui. Sen sijaan että olisin heti ostanut kuntosalilta uuden, jouduin odottamaan, että joku myisi netissä omansa halvalla. Monet hankkivat parin vuoden jäsenyyden, mutta mikäli he muuttavat, heillä ei ole kuntosalijäsenyydelle käyttöä muualla. Mikäli ostaa jonkun muun jäsenyyden, en itse pysty sitä myymään eteenpäin. Sen takia tuli ostettua kymmenen kuukauden kortin. Kortti maksoi jo 165 euroa ja lisäksi pitää kuntosalille maksaa melkein 60 euroa.

Aikaisemmin pystyin käymään päivisin kuntosalilla, mutta ollessani töissä, tämä ei oikein toimi enää. Joudun siis käymään puntilla ruuhka-aikaan, eli illalla. Yritän saapua paikalle kahdeksan jälkeen, sillä silloin monet ovat jo matkalla kotiin. Pahin aika on seitsemältä, jolloin kaikkiin laitteisiin on jonot.

                                                                                                                                                                 

I haven’t been to the gym in two months, and the reason for this is that my gym membership ended some while ago. Instead of getting a new one straight from the gym, we had to do the same way as before, and wait for someone to sell their membership online. This is much cheaper than the gym. On the other hand I have to pay both the seller and the gym for the change of the card. I bought a membership for ten months costing 1100rmb, and in addition I had to pay 380 to the gym. The reason most people need to sell their membership is because they will move somewhere else. Since the card I bought has already once been changed, I will not be able to change it again with somebody else. I just hope that I will use the card longer than just 4 months. Hopefully it will only be unused for one month in December and that I will come back to Shanghai in the spring.

Before I was working, I was able to go to the gym in the afternoon. Now I have to go there in the evening, in other words the rush hour. Fortunately most people leave before nine o’clock, so if I arrive after eight, the amount of people is less than at seven o’clock in the evening. The gym closes at ten, so for now there shouldn’t be a problem. 

Polkupyörä ostettu

Kotimme lähistöltä löytyi paikka, joka myy polkupyöriä halvalla, joten kävimme sieltä ostamassa pyörän. Olin jo pitkään ajatellut hankkivani pyörän, joten matkat kuntosalille tai kauppaan sujuisivat nopeammin. Tämän lisäksi saksalainen ystävä on jo alusta asti sanonut, että hanki nyt pyörä, sillä hän ja hänen miehensä polkevat kaikkialle, ja se on hänestä niin kätevää. Pyöräily on tuntunut melko vaaralliselta Kiinassa, sillä liikenne on sen verran sekavaa. Monella kadulla on erilliset kaistat pyörille ja mopoille, mutta ihmiset ja autot sattuvat tulemaan eteen miten sattuu..

Pyöräkauppa sijaitsi isossa varastossa. Paikka itse asiassa myy tehtaalta tuotuja pyöriä kaupoille, joten hinnat ovat normaaleja kauppoja alhaisemmat. Mielessä oli värikäs pyörä, jota kukaan ei toivottavasti varasta. Olisin halunnut sinisen ja pinkin, mutta se väri löytyi ainoastaan kalliimmasta mallista. Halvemmalla mallilla oli myös paljon värivaihtoehtoja, ja yritin katsoa ne läpi pimeässä varastossa. Pyörät olivat lisäksi vielä paketeissa ja muovissa, joka vaikeutti valinnan tekoa.  Valittuani värin, työntekijä kasasi pyörän minulle. Pyörän kasaaminen ei kauan kestänyt, ja sain hallin sisällä koeajaa pyörä, ennen kuin pistimme sen auton takakonttiin ja vietiin kotiin. Väriksi tuli valittua turkoosi ja liila, ja pyörä maksoi 45 euroa. Pyörä ei paina paljon mitään, joten tähän saakka olemme aina sen viidenteen kerrokseen kantaneet. Taobaosta tuli vielä tilattua vähän lisä-osia, kuten kello, etu- ja takavalo, kypärä ja lukko.

                                                                                                                                                                    

Some while ago I was thinking about buying a moped, but instead we bought a car, so there was no need for me to get one. But in most cases, I do not need to go by car to some nearby place such as the store or to the gym, so we decided to get me a bicycle. My German friend has tried to get me to buy a bicycle from the very beginning, but I think it is quite unsafe to use bicycle in China. The traffic is horrible, to say the least, and the roads aren’t always in the best condition. On the other hand most roads have separate street for bicycles and moped, but people might walk there and cars usually park on these streets, so it doesn’t make it any better from the rest of the roads.

We found a place nearby our home that sells bicycles and mopeds to shops. The place was a warehouse filled with bicycles still in packages and plastic, and the bicycles had to be assembled. I needed to decide on which color I wanted. I would have wanted a blue and pink one, but this color was only found on a more expensive model. I ended up choosing a turquoise and lilac bike. A man assembled the bike in just a couple of minutes and then I could test drive it inside the warehouse. Unfortunately he didn’t make the screws tight enough, so CC had to return there and get the screws tightened later on.

The bike doesn’t have a hand brake, so it means that I brake by pedaling backwards. I think it is quite simple compared to the usual hand brake. All kinds of extra things such as a bell, lock and lights were missing. I ordered these from Taobao, and including a helmet, the price was just about 160rmb. The bike itself cost 300rmb, after we had haggled it down from 350rmb. Quite cheap if you compare to the bike that the German bought for 600rmb. After receiving and installing a panda bell, back and front light and a lock that doesn’t seem to keep any thieves away, my bike was ready for a test drive. On Monday we drove around our nearby streets. The bike is so light, weighing just some kilos, that I am able to carry it up to our fifth floor apartment.

Netti on taas kerran ollut hankala. Se ei iltaisin millään halua avata blogia, eikä muitakaan sivuja. Luulin alussa, että talossamme muutkin asukkaat käyttävät nettiämme, ja tekevät siitä hitaan, mutta myös muilla, joilla on kalliimpi ja parempi paketti valittavat ilta ongelmista. Syy hitauteen taitaapa olla se, että illalla kaikki kiinalaiset ovat samaan aikaan netissä, ja se rasittaa myös minun yhteyttäni. Huonona puolena on se että minulla olisi iltaisin ainoastaan aikaa lisätä blogiin kuvia jne. Saapa nähdä miten jatkossa menee. 

                                                                                                                                                                 

The network connection is extremely slow in the evening, and that is time when I would have time to update my blog. In the beginning I suspected that other people used our network, but I found out later that people who buy a quicker connection also face some problems. The reason is that too many people in all of China use the internet in the evening making the connection for everybody slow.

Perjantaina suunnittelin, mitä me voisimme viikonloppuna tehdä. Ajattelin, että voisimme lähteä Hongqiaon kukkamarkkinoille, sillä se on niin pitkällä, ja metrolla sinne ei oikein halua lähteä. No enpä tätä idea CClle sanonut, mutta lauantaina CC heräsi päiväunilta ja sanoi, että lähdetäänkö kukkamarkkinoille? Kysyin, että mistä hän tällaisen idean keksi, ja hän sanoi, että minä olin sen hänen unessaan sanonut. Noniin eli telepatia täälläpäin ainakin toimii!

Matka autolla kesti noin tunnin, ja käytimme auton gpsn sijaan kännykkäni navigaattoria. Tämä toimi yllättävän hyvin, sillä se varoitti edessä olevista ruuhkista. Emme olleet paikkaa ensin löytää, mutta lopulta olimme perillä. Hongqiaon kukkamarkkinoilla oli paljon muutakin tavaraa. Kukkakimppujen, sisä-, ulko- ja tekokukkien lisäksi paikan päältä pystyi ostamaan paljon astioita ja keittiötarvikkeita. Löysimme myös paljon sisutusliikkeitä. Olisin halunnut ostaa vaikka mitä, mutta mukaan tuli vain jokunen astia ja orkidea kotiin. Kukan valinta oli vaikea, sillä markkinoilla oli ainakin viisi paikkaa, jotka möivät vain orkideoita. Värejä ja kokoja oli aivan liikaa, joten lopulta päädyin simppeliin valkoiseen. Orkideat eivät pidä Shanghain lämmöstä, joten saapa nähdä kuinka kauan se pysyy hengissä.

                                                                                                                                                            

On Saturday we headed over to the Hongqiao flower market. It is quite far away from our home, so I have never gone there before. Imagine buying flowers and taking them back by metro, it would not work at all. It took about one hour by car. The place was hard to find, but finally we came to the right place. Even though it is called a flower market, the place has so much more. In addition to all sorts of bouquets, home and outdoor plants, even plastic flowers, the market has also a wide selection of kitchenware and home decoration. I found so many things that I wanted to buy, but at this point there is no need for those things. One of these items included an old Chinese style sofa for two people.. hehe. Now maybe I can’t fit it in anywhere. I had also a problem with selecting an orchid. There were five shops specialized in selling just orchids and finding the right style and color took ages. I ended up taking a simple white one, as there were too many colors to choose just one. On the other hand orchids do not like the heat in Shanghai so let’s see how long it stays alive. 

Simpukoista koristeita

Merenranta pitkiin kulkevalla tiellä oli paljon kojuja, jotka möivät simpukankuorista tehtyjä koristeita. Teki mieli ostaa yhden ripustettavan koristeen, mutta en tiedä minne sen pistäisi. Jotenkin tuntuu oudolta, että tälläistäkin löytyy Shanghaista.  

                                                                                                                                                                

Along the shore there were lots of small shops selling decorations made out of sea shells. I would have liked to buy one decoration piece, but I have no idea where to put it. It seems a bit surreal to find shops selling these kinds of things in Shanghai, but actually if you think about it, you could probably find everything in this city, if you just know where to look. 

Saksalaiset tuliaiset

Saksalainen ystävä kävi Saksassa noin viikon verran. Hänen palattua Shanghaihin, hän toi tullessaan suklaata ja kynsilakkaa. Itse toin Suomesta tuliaisena lakua, ja ihme kyllä hän piti siitä todella paljon. Kiinalaiset toisaalla eivät lakuun ihastuneet, ja söin itse kaksi pussia. Saksalaisen vanhemmat ovat tulleet Shanghaihin pariksi viikoksi, joten emme ehdi seuraavien viikkojen aikana olla paljon yhteyksissä. Sillä Saksalainen on ainut länsimaalainen ystävä tällä alueella, olemme viime aikoina olleet paljon tekemisissä. Saapa nähdä paljonko ehdimme tavata syksyn aikana, ennen kun me molemmat palaamme kotimaihimme joulukuun aikana.

                                                                                                                                                                  

My German friend brought me some chocolate and nail polish from German as a gift. She had gone there for a week to meet some friends, since she hasn’t been home in over half a year. Her husband on the other hand had to stay in Shanghai and work during her trip. Soon after her trip to German, her parents arrived in Shanghai. In other words we don’t have time to meet as often as we usually do. Hopefully we will have more time during autumn, since we both will leave Shanghai during December. 

Merenrannalla

Tee juomisen jälkeen hyppäsimme autoon ja ajoimme merelle. En ole aikaisemmin nähnyt Shanghain merta, en ollut edes tietoinen, että sinne voi mennä. Luulin, ettei merenrannalla ole muuta näkemistä kuin rahtilaivoja. Olin osin oikeassa, sillä merellä oli paljon laivoja, ja itse asiassa ei paljon muuta nähtävää. Ihan rannalle asti on vaikea päästä. Parkkipaikalta oli noin 20 minuutin kävely siihen kohtaan, josta pääsimme kiipeämään alas alemmalle tasolle. Ranta oli kumminkin reunustettu jollain montulla, etteivät ihmiset nyt suoraan veteen juokse. Paikan päältä löytyy myös oikea hiekkaranta, josta pääsee uimaan mereen, mutta sisäänpääsy oli noin kymmenen euroa. Menemme sinne sitten ensi kerralla.

                                                                                                                                                                 

After we had ended the tea ceremony, we drove to the shore of Shanghai. I didn’t know there was anything to see or do. Actually I was somewhat correct, as the shore isn’t that fantastic. You cannot go swimming, as the current is pretty strong. They have also made it hard to go near the water. We had to walk for some 20 minutes before we arrived to the spot where you could climb down and go the actual shore. Lots of big ships drove past. The interesting part was that the shore is near to the airport, so lots of airplanes flew by pretty close. There is a beach, and from there you can go swimming, but since we didn’t have any gear with us, we didn’t pay the entrance fee to have a look. But maybe next time we will go there and go a swim in the sea. 

Teetalossa

CCn ystävä pyysi meidät mukaan grillaamaan. Sää oli sen verran tuulinen, että menimme sittenkin teetaloon. Luulisi, että teetalossa juodaan vaan teetä, mutta asiaan kuuluu, että syödään kaiken maailman pienannoksia. Pöytään tuotiin hedelmiä ja pähkinöitä, tämän lisäksi aina silloin tällöin saimme valita mitä kylmiä annoksia halusimme syödä. Aina tunnein välein saimme myös erilaisia lisäannoksia. Ensiksi saimme muna-leivoksia, sitten tuli kanankoipia, lopuksi tuli vielä jotain pikkuleipiä ja makeaa keittoa. Join ensiksi vihreätä teetä, mutta vaihdoin CCn kanssa ja otin hänen Pu’er –ruusu teen. Olimme teetalossa noin kolmisen tuntia, sillä aikaa ehdimme syödä, juoda, puhua ja pelata korttia.

                                                                                                                                                                 

CCs friend invited us to join him and his family for some grilling. The weather wasn’t too good, so instead we went to a tea house. I thought we would just be drinking tea, but we had lots of food to accompany the tea. Fruits and nuts were served right away and we were also offered different cold dishes. During every hour, one additional dish was served. First it was these delicious Portuguese egg-tarts, after this we had some chicken wings, the last thing was some Chinese pastry and bean soup. I drank some green tea and rose infused Pu’er tea. You can yourself pour more water and this means that you only need to order tea once. On the other hand one cup of tea costs some 80rmb.
