Viimeisenä päivänä Pekingissä lähdimme hotellin järjestämälle matkalle. Seitsemän
aikaan aamulla minibussi tuli hakemaan meidät ja mukana oli englantia puhuva kiinalainen
opas. Matkalla kyytiin tuli paljon erimaalaisia ihmisiä. Matka kesti noin kaksi
– kolme tuntia. Emme olleet alussa maksaneet kaapeli-hissi-maksua, mutta
päätimme lopulta ottaa sen, sillä mikäli olisimme kävelleet ylös muurille, emme
olisi kolmessa tunnissa ehtineet muurin parhaimpaan kohtaan ja vielä takaisin. Kaapelihissi
meni viidessä minuutissa ylös muurille ja matka meni niin jyrkästä kohtaa
vuorta, etten ulos oikein halunnut katsokaan. Muurilla oli jonkin verran
turisteja, mutta ei lähelläkään mitään ryysistä, mitä olen kuullut, että
toisella muurin osalla olisi. Suomalainen ystävä jäi jälkeen, joten
Amerikkalaisen kanssa kävelimme melko nopeaan tahtiin kohti 23. vahtitornia,
missä oli kuulemma hyvät nähtävyydet.
Kävely oli aika tasaista kunnes lopuksi oli vastassa aivan mielettömän
korkeat portaat. Vähän yli puolivälissä löytyi tämä torni, jonne olimme
matkalla. Vaikka minulla ei huonoin kunto ole, jouduin ottamaan noin kymmenisen
lepo-taukoa matkan aikana. Pääsin lopulta ylös, ja niin teki Amerikkalainenkin.
Hän kumminkin ei jaksanut jatkaa vielä ylöspäin, joten lähdin yksin matkaan.
Mitä ylemmäs pääsi, sitä vähemmän ihmisiä tuli vastaan. Lopuksi muuria ei enää ollut
uudistettu ja kivet olivat epätasaisia. Vaikka näin vielä pidemmällä lisään
torneja, en jaksanut kävellä loppuun saakka, sillä päättelin, ettei näkymät
sieltä paljon parempia voineet olla. Alas tulo oli lopuksi melko vaikeata kun
lihakset olivat jäykistyneet lepotauon aikana. Pääsin kun pääsinkin alas asti,
ja matkalla tapasin taas Amerikkalaisen, jonka kanssa kävelin loppumatkan.
Muurilta alas päästyämme kaapelihissillä vastassa oli suura määrä myyjiä ja
kojuja. Muurilla myynnissä olleet vesipullot maksoivat lähemmäs 10rmb, kun tinkimällä
myyjiltä sain sen 2rmb. Olimme ensimmäisten joukossa, jotka saapuivat
tapaamispaikkaan, eli ravintolaan. Emme olleet kuin kymmenen minuuttia ajoissa
kun taas jotkut tulivat puolituntia myöhässä. Ruokailun jälkeen hyppäsimme
bussin kyytiin ja kotimatka oli todella outo. Pääsimme kuin pääsimmekään
hotelille vaikka matkalla olisi kuulema pitänyt vaihtaa bussia tai ottaa metro tai
jotain muuta outoa.

Our hotel arranged a tour to the wall, so
on the last day we woke up at seven to go to a minibus that would take us
there. We had a Chinese guide, who spoke English with us and on the way to the
wall the bus made some stops and picked up more people. The drive took about two-three
hours as we went to the part of the wall that was less touristy, since it is
further away from the city. As we arrived I realized I had to buy a ticket to a
cable car to get up to wall. In case I didn’t want to take it, then the walk up
would have taken too long. The cable car rise took five minutes and there weren’t
too many people on the wall. We had three hours on us to explore the wall. I together
with an American guy started walking pretty fast so we wouldn’t miss out on the
23rd tower and the view from there. In other words we started from
the 14th tower, which means that it took about an hour to reach our
destination.
The wall was pretty comfortable to walk at
even though it was sunny and over thirty degrees. The hardest part was walking
up the stairs to the tower with the best view. I had to take lots of breaks as
I couldn’t manage to walk all the way up at once. The American stayed at that
tower as I continued upwards. As I reached the next tower I had enough and
turned back down. If I would have continued there wouldn’t have been a smooth
path ahead as the rest of the wall hasn’t been updated. The walk back was also
hard but I managed to catch up with the American and together we walked back to
the cable cars. There were some sellers on the wall but as their prices were
really high, I decided to buy water from the sellers that waited at the
entrance. We had a meal together with the group and after that we had a weird
drive back to the hotel. We stopped at some point and people started getting
off and went to the subway and then we had to meet up with some other bus and
so forth. But we got home and the trip was worth it.
