eläintarha sijaitsee Hongqiao alueella, eli periaatteessa toisella puolella
kaupunkia, kun lähdimme sinne Pudongin puolelta. Matkahan kesti yli tunnin ja
huomasin jo matkalla, että olimme valinneet väärän päivän mennäkseen
tutustumaan eläimiin, sillä viikonloppuisin perheet lähtevät puistoihin
viettämään päivää. Eläintarha on siis todella iso puisto, jossa on nurmikoita,
jonne ihmiset pystyttävät telttansa. Puolet alueesta on sitten eläimille
varattu, ja monet eläimistä jäikin näkemättä, sillä alue on sen verran suuri.
Aloitimme kierroksen linnuista. Täältä jatkoimme järven ympäri, jossa oli paljon
vapaita pelikaaneja ja joutsenia. Näimme paljon eläimiä, joista joillakin oli
hyvät isot ja vihreät alueet kun taas toisilla oli pienet ja alkeelliset kopit.
Iso määrä ihmisiä oli kokoontunut pandan lasitetunhäkin ulkopuolelle, joten
hyviä kuvia ei saanut otettua. Oli hauska myös nähdä miten kiinalaiset
eläintarhassa käyttäytyvät. Monesti he olivat niin lähellä reunaa, että olivat
lähellä pudota alas, kuten esim. lapset pidettiin reunalla, ja vähän alempana
karhu odottelee jo. Ruokintakiellosta huolimatta kiinalaiset jakoivat eväitään
eläinten kanssa. Vaikka eläintarhaa oli monissa paikkaa sanottu olevan tosi
huono, olen erimieltä, sillä se oli kyllä ihan samanlainen kuin missä tahansa
muussa massa.

The Zoo of Shanghai is located in Hongqiao, which is
over one hour away from the place I lived at in Pudong. We went there on the
weekend, which in a way was a mistake as I knew families go to parks during
their free time. The zoo is a kind of gigantic leisure park and maybe only half
of the area has animals. People put up on tents on the area and just spent the
day there. The park was actually so big that we missed some of the animals
completely. We started off from the birds. From there we passed a lake with
birds roaming around freely. It was a bit scary to be able to go so near a
large pelican. The lake had swans and other large birds. From there we saw some
small and medium sized mammals. Some had poor spaces to live in as others had
pretty nice and green enclosures. We saw the normal tigers and lions, but
getting near the panda was impossible as so many people wanted to catch a
glimpse of the national creature. The pandas didn’t do much so we moved on to
the herbivores. We passed the monkey house, but there were too many people
wanting to see gorillas and it was a bit disturbing watching them trying to get
the animals attention by hitting the glass and so on. People also ignored the
signs and fed the animals. I was also amused to see how near the cages people
held their children. One push and the next moment somebody’s child is together
with a bear in a small enclosure. The park was anyways worth a visit and next
time I will go on a day when there aren’t too many people.
